Today we walked from Ourense to Cea. There are two routes, eastern and westers, Given the rather heavy rain the last few days and the warning that the easters route was prone to flooding and mud after rain, we shose the western route, wanting to minimize traversing mud. The long, steep...
Walked to Ourense today. Still intermittent rain today and forecast for tomorrow. Much of the route today was along paved secondary roads, so firm footing and no mud. Galicia is beautiful.
Oddly, after we ended for the day, I can no longer open maps in Wise Pilgrim. I even deleted and...
Walked a short day today from Vilar de Barrio to Xunqueiro de Ambia partly in the rain. Gerald Kelly's notes caution about the difficult and treacherous downhill before Xunqueiro de Ambia. It is difficult and slippery, especially after the rain. Every day brings beautiful vistas. Negotiating...
We walked today under cloudy, threatening skies from Laza up the long, steep, unstable climb to Albegueria. Gerald Kelly's notes say that the famous bar where you can sign your name to a shell is closed on Monday, and we were hoping he was wrong...alas, he was correct, as with pretty much...
To Gerald Kelly,
First, my apologies for misspelling your last name. I have your app, and have contributed to you in some way in the past because while the app is "free," I think developers of useful apps deserve to be compensated. I bought your actual guidebooks before my first pilgrimage walk...
Last year I started the Via de la Plata in Seville with my friend Tom from Sydney whom I met at a yoga studio in Chiang Mai, Thailand. We and his girlfriend Julie walked the Camino Frances my second time, their first time in the autumn of 2017. With the pandemic dehind us and both Tom and I...
I have resurrected my travel blog for my upcoming pilgrimage walk in Spain from Zamora to Santiago de Compostela on the Camino Sanabres:
Springtime on the Camino Sanabres

This will be my fourth Camino pilgrimage walk. My motivation is to complete the Via de la...
Agree with @DoughnutANZ . See the following thread, started by me. I was almost shocked at how many others had similar bad experiences with Allianz as I did.

And, as @DoughnutANZ...
I am an AT&T customer with an unlimited data plan. As Rmarkob says, their international plan is $10 per day up to a maximum of $100 per billing period. Having unlimited data was nice, and it was very fast in Spain. I typically use WhatsApp but I like knowing that my family & friends at home can...
I first walked the Camino Frances in the spring of 2016. I had another opportunity to take a break from work in the autumn of 2017 and return to Spain to walk a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela again.
In considering the route, I realized that for the first time, there was a good bit of...
Another closure on travel insurance. I was in Chiang Mai, Thailand this past winter with travel insurance from AXA, and had to visit the hospital/ophthalmologist because of an infected corneal abrasion. After returning home, I went through the process to file a claim with AXA. The process was...
Last year I started the VDLP/Sanabres pilgrimage walk in Seville the day after Easter. I had to end early at Granja de Moreuela due to severe tendonitis. Now a year later, I am returning to finish the VDLP/Sanabres starting in Zamora on May 2. I am flying to Madrid, and would like to take the...
Just north of Canaveral, the Via de la Plata passed through the parking lot of a "puti club" aka brothel. They were closed when I walked through being mid-morning, so I was not able to ask for a sello. I wonder if the Pilgrim's Office would notice if I had a sello from a brothel?
The shell on my backpack is from that shop (about 12-14 cm across), one of my favorite souvenirs. Subtle, but when noticed, always gets a comment. (And I have had many offers to buy it.) In Ayegui, near the wine fountain at the Bodegas Irache winery.
This I especially liked:
It reminds me of a quote from an interview with Jack Hitt, the author of "Off the Road: A Modern-day Walk Down the Pilgrim's Route into Spain" which was one of the inspirations for Emilio Estevez to write the screenplay for the film "The Way."
"One of the cool things...
Keep in mind that "arrival time" means when the airplane's wheels touch the ground. Arrival time does not mean arrival at the gate. After arrival, there is the time to move the plane to the gate, and depending on the arrival runway, the location of the gate, and other ground traffic, this can...
I have used both Follow the Camino and Camino Ways in the past. There is a strong bias on this forum towards staying in albergues and if using private accommodation, doing all the booking yourself. I disagree with this bias and agree completely with the comment from @Mamarich:
I just returned...
I was walking the Via de la Plata recently, and yes, between Canaveral and Galisteo the Camino route goes right through the parking lot of the brothel/puticlub El Puerto. There were cars in the parking lot, so I stopped and rang the bell to see if I could get a sello. It was about 10 AM. Rang...
To close the loop on my problem with Allianz travel insurance from my trip to Chiang Mai, Thailand last winter: I received yet another inquiry asking for proof of payment for my medical bills. I was in Spain walking the Via de la Plata (with travel insurance from AXA), so there was a delay. I...
