I flew Canada to Paris to Biarritz, spent the night near the airport and took a train to SJPdP first thing the next morning. Stopped at the pilgrims office and headed straight for Valcarlos. Didn't take time adjust to the travel or anything, just got going.
I did F first then M second, and am so glad I did. Climbed up on the rock and watched the sunset in M, and even if I don't walk that route again, I absolutely plan to visit M at the end of any future walks.
I did that in 43 and actually ran into the same group multiple times...I didn't take rest days (but did a few very short ones) while they did, and we hit santiago the same day
I fly Toronto to Montreal to paris to Biarritz, then train to sjpdp....returned santiago to paris to Montreal to Toronto. I purchased the paris to biarritz and the santiago to paris flights separate from the other. It is a bit of a risk if ones late because the other isn't covered, but it...
I raised money before I went, half went to a friend of mine and her kid who had a terminal illness, for medical supplies and travel costs. The other half went to Autism Ontario in honour of another friend of mine and her son who has autism. It was cool to have friends support other friends.
I actually was kinda bad and very rarely stopped to rest no matter how long the day. I don't suggest it, but for me I really struggled to get back going if I took breaks much more than a few minutes. I definitely was not one that could stop and take off shoes and stuff. I do suggest taking...
I am in Canada, most jobs aren't that good unless it's a good professional job. The average job for lots of people doesn't even have benefits..... 6 weeks off per year for you, that's definitely rare
Even if you have to pay For a room of four beds (ex 2 bunks) for 3 of you that should be an option many places.... Or you get a dual room, and the third person uses everybody's sleeping gear for the floor
I booked everything only like 2 weeks before. It was in 2020 so my March trip was postponed from C19. So when there was a lull in late summer I went. (Flew from canada)
I flew into Paris and then caught a flight to Biarritz. There I stayed at a hotel like a 5 minute walk away. The next morning I took a train to SJPdP. That train was about 2kms from my hotel, but I did take a taxi to the station (being how early in the am and whatnot), but would be walkable...
Spraying your bedding doesn't do a whole lot....usually dies after getting to you still. Maybe a bit different with raid, but most products pilgrims use they don't realize won't kill them on contact, so really it helps the next person but not you lol
The problem with airtransat is they stop most of the routes over winter ( or late fall/early spring) which is when I would probably go, so they very likely wont be an option
A few years ago I walked the Frances, flew into Paris then Biarrittz with bus to SJPdP and back from Santiago through Paris. This was from Ontario.
I'm just wondering for those of you specifically who have flown over through Calgary, or even Edmonton too I guess, how did you do your routes...
