You could also look at Primitivo with Finesterre/Muxia. The Hospitales route might not be passable at that point but the Polande de Allende section may be. As you say, someone with experience walking the San Salvador/Primitivo route may add their experiences. There is also a FB group for the...
My last camino in 2019 was the Camino Inglés from Ferrol. This can be done in 5-6 days and you end in Santiago. If I had had more time I would have added the Santiago-Finisterre-Muxia leg on to it. It is a lovely walk, and is becoming more popular, but we didn't see an awful lot of other...
I don't have anything additional to add to the Ireland to Spain travel options, however just wanted to say that the walk from Bray into Dublin is beautiful! And very easy to make your way to Bray on the train.
My understanding in Canada is that until the government's Global Travel Advisory is lifted, there will be no non-essential international travel, and insurance will not be available. Once the travel advisory is removed, then we may have a better idea of how the insurance industry will (or will...
I hadn't seen this shoe before, and I swear by Salomon's; then I read the 'isn't available in Canada' which explains why this shoe hasn't been on my radar. Maybe for next Camino whenever that may be. Thanks for profiling this one.
What a wonderful thread - thank you @VNwalking for starting this one.
After spending time planning and researching my 2015 Camino, one of my priorities was to take the detour on Stage 4 (Brierley) and go to see the Church of Santa Maria de Eunate. I had read about it on the Forum, but I don't...
I have worn Salomon boots and shoes on all of my Camino routes. Salomon X Ultra 3 have both non-goretex and goretex models. I find that they provide me with great support, last quite well, and with my last Camino in the June/July timeframe, the non-waterproof version was perfect.
If you do decide on the C. Portuguese, check out the Quinta Estrada Romana albergue. albergue-quinta-estrada-romana
This albergue was a renovation project undertaken by a Canadian couple, one of whom is from my province. They bought a rundown property around 2012/2013 and created an amazing...
The 11th edition of the Camino Portuguese guidebook by John Brierley was published just this year 2020. Make sure to order a newer edition as there are changes, new albergues etc. Check here...
I walked the Camino Inglés last year in 6 days, and you can easily break it up to use your 7 days available. However there will still be days that may be just above 20km to keep within 7 days.
Ferrol - Neda (15.5km)
Neda - Pontedeume (16km)
Pontedeume - Miño (10km) and Miño - Betanzos (10km)...
I walked the Camino Inglés last June/July, and we only met 6-8 people while walking. We did it in 6 days, but 5 is certainly do-able. We split the Ferrol to Pontedeume into 2 days.
This link may help in becoming familiar with the mix of albergues (more private than municipal) and pensions/hotels: https://www.gronze.com/camino-ingles I would be checking to see if the albergues/pensions are open in the winter months. We stayed at Hotel Suizo, Calle Dolores 67 in Ferrol...
Are you planning on stopping at Orisson or are you walking through to Roncesvalles? The communal dinner at Orisson is wonderful and you meet many of the pilgrims who you will see over the days and weeks ahead. Hope to see you at the CCoP Halifax Chapter event March 31 so we can give you a...
I haven't walked the Primitivo, but this is an excellent blog and has a great description of the Primitivo. Maggie is a member of the Forum and has extensive Camino route experience. https://magwood.me/my-caminos/caminos-de-madrid-salvador-primitivo-fistera-2017/
Hotel Meson del Cid. Directly across from the Cathedral on the Camino route. A wonderful 2 day rest location. If you have the inclination, check out the Museum of Human Evolution after a Cathedral tour.
This is not a guidebook, but I have found the blog posts by Trepidatious Traveller https://magwood.me that provide detailed information about her 5 (so far) Caminos to be very informative. Her 2017 Camino included the Primitivo. Good winter reading while you search out the best guidebooks & apps!
