Having made the mistake of walking about 8 miles around Prague in jeans about 12 years ago, I would never recommend them to anyone. The chafing was bad enough to send me to my physician when I got back home.
Actually, I did not bring an umbrella for my five day hike from Sarria to Santiago. However, it was Galicia, and it did rain 3 of the 5 days, sometimes very heavily. I am not sure what an umbrella would have done that my rain jacket didn't do to keep me dry. During the limited sunshine, I...
$100+ for an umbrella? For that price it should automatically jump out of your pack upon the arrival of the first drop of rain, open itself up and position itself properly in your hand as you had pre-programmed it. :)
I agree with Leukotape. Great stuff as a preventative! Also using a lubricant such as Glide along with good socks and sock liners has worked well for me. I realize some folks do not like sock liners.
Agreed. I have a Stratos 36 and love it. I also purchased an Osprey Farpoint 40 travel pack last year for a month long non-hiking trip to Switzerland and was able to use it as a carry-on and avoid checking a bag. I have been very happy with my Osprey choices.
Wow, so they finally started running people through security in Europe for trains? I guess I haven't been on a European train since 2015, but I was always amazed that there were no security checks whatsoever on any train journey I ever took anywhere in Europe. I assume the incident in I...
I used the rain cover as well as compactor bags. Probably overkill, but the contents stayed dry. I went the rain jacket route and wore rain pants during heavy rains. Stayed dry except for my feet.
I second the CamelBak Handsfree Adapter. I think it is designed for the CamelBak Eddy bottle, but it was incredibly easy and handy. The bottle stays in your backpack pouch and the tube is there to use whenever needed. Best option I found and it works like a charm.
I wore a Marmot rain jacket and rain pants in some heavy rain. They worked well. My waterproof Vasque shoes did OK until the heavy rain and deep puddles. Changing socks was not a viable option as the fresh socks would be wet within a half hour. A good rain jacket will be breathable. Rain...
Cycling sleeves are a great idea. I use them for cycling regularly. I opted not to take them for my May Camino, only because I (correctly) anticipated that I would be wearing either a fleece, long sleeved t-shirt or rain jacket most or all of the time. The rain jacket won out for the most...
I purchased a Camelbak Eddy hands free water bottle adapter which can be attached to any Camelbak Eddy, Groove, Better Bottle or Performance bottle. I suppose it is similar to the SmarTube but limited to Camelbak bottles. You basically remove the bottle's mouthpiece and attach the tube. See...
I haven't done my Camino yet, but I have been using this in training hikes. I like it a lot. You can place a Camelbak Eddy bottle of any size (.5L/.750L/1 L) in your backpack sidepocket(s) and the tube will be available such that you don't have to worry about not being able to reach the bottle...
