    Porto to Villa do Conde

It's a hard one.. we had to let our 14 year old dog go last year, she was really one of the family. Buen Camino

    Low fee ATMs. Where

It would indeed be helpful, but for me at least, life's just too short and it's all too confusing.. I'm very lucky.. I can drop everything, jump on a plane and go walking across Spain for a month at short notice. When I run out of cash, I can go to a hole in the wall, get another clump of...

"It's not about the gear" camino article from an irish jesuit blog

I agree with what he writes: there is too much (media driven) focus on planning, logistics and physical fitness and not enough on mental attitude and preparedness for an inner journey. At the risk of offending some, it seems to me, this very forum represents pretty well this 80/20 rule thing...

    Low fee ATMs. Where

Yes. My own comments were aimed at the forum readership in general. True indeed, and my hat goes off to young people who manage to stretch their funds in order to prolong their travel experience. My son came back recently from eight months around Europe and North Africa. I wouldn't last a month...

    Low fee ATMs. Where

I agree. If we were to make withdrawals every couple of days, it would be worth shopping around, sure. But for the sake of a couple of withdrawals over the course of a whole camino, is it worth worrying about? A pilgrim coming from a far away land, was recently concerned about the average cost...

    Stages from Oloron-Sainte-Marie

I stayed in the Hotel Yamaguchi in Sanguesa just a few weeks ago. It was very lively then, but I had a very comfortable room and a good breakfast. The Aragonês seems to be throwing some challenges your way, I hope you can recover enough to enjoy the last part of it. After Monreal, will you...

    Solo female from ireland

Finding your way across the Camino Frances won't be any trouble at all, it's so well trodden, but it's likely to be hot in July/August, so be prepared for the heat! There will also be a much higher percentage of Spanish pilgrims than at other times of the year. If you have time, brush up on the...

When does the Camino make sense

Michael Harding has a lovely, gentle view of the world. He got us through some of the darkest days of 'the covid' on the radio..

Are passport copies accepted at albergues?

Many albergues, including the one I most recently volunteered at, use hand held scanners now, to speed up the registration process. If a document wouldn't scan for whatever reason, we could enter the information manually, but our instructions when checking in pilgrims, was to ensure they always...

Parador resumes the “free meal” tradition

Are you sure you were one of the first ten in the queue? If you were, you should have gotten a lunch voucher, stapled to your queue ticket. Try if you like, but I don't know that going back the next day will prove fruitful.. it's all in the moment anyway, shared with the few you've been standing...

    Help! Can't find a bed in Santiago, May 17 and 18, 2024

It seems very popular with large groups now, not just pilgrims. More so at weekends, I suppose. The big, fully equipped kitchen and dining area, and its proximity.. close enough but far enough out of town. it all helps, no doubt. No better place in Santiago to watch the sunset over the old town...

    Porto to Villa do Conde

A pity.. the walk from the cathedral, out along the Douro to the Foz and beyond, is far nicer than most of the 'urban walking' you'd have endured between Coimbra and Porto in the preceeding days...

    Salvadorana, Saturday/sunday

Oops sorry, you are right. I think I've misinterpreted the question.. Yes, I was referring to the little Salvador credencial, which I got from the convent albergue in León, not the Salvadorana aself, which I never bothered collecting when I arrived in Oviedo.

    Salvadorana, Saturday/sunday

If the cathedral hours don't work for you, just get it off the nuns, even if youre not staying there. There might a bit of an admission queue, they'll have it at the check in desk..

current status of albergue bed availability on CDN

I'm just home from a month long camino which finished with a week's volunteering at La Cabaña del Abuelo Peuto in Güemes, where we had between 50 and 90 pilgrims every night. This might give some indication of how busy things are on the Norte, and many pilgrims complained of no bed availability...

Hiking poles on the plane in Santiago!

@Kathar1na is simply trying to keep this important thread relevant, as this very specific issue, departing SdC with hiking poles, is an ongoing concern for many on the forum, but instead you decide to introduce and include climbing ropes. Sometimes I think herding cats might be easier..

    Dual Pilgrimage

The Pilgrims Office doesn't issue the dual stamp, only the final, cathedral stamp. Someone might clarify, but I think it can be obtained from the tourist office? If you can show your husband's Kumano Kodo credential along with your own photos, I'm sure they'll give you your stamp. Disappointing...

Camino invierno two stamps per day

Make sure to get a couple on the way tomorrow, and explain to the staff that you had difficulty (though there is really no problem getting two stamps a day on the invierno, winter or summer). No guarantees, but hopefully you will get an understanding staff member or volunteer and all will be ok.

    Snoring. AARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

Oh, this old debate again, already.. Lookit, you've said it yourself.. most of us will snore at some time, to some degree. Personally, I consciously try to sleep on my stomach or side and moderate alcohol consumption when sharing a room full of other people, out of respect. I also accept from...

    Snoring. AARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

From his post, I think he absolutely does.. and I think he's nailed it. If you want to sleep in luxury, don't choose pilgrim accommodation.
