    Recent Smelly Pilgrim Test

The company referenced above is called “Wool&” or “Wooland” and they give you a $30 gift certificate if you wear one of their dresses for 30 days straight, or $100 if you make it 100 days. Of course you can wash it as many times as you like. I became a merino wool convert! Their men’s line is...

Which month has flowers blooming in the Camino? Is April Rainy?

Red poppies galore in early May last year and Galicia is full of fragrant yellow toxo bushes in mid and late May, fields of wildflowers too!

    Plastic Storage Bins in Santiago???

I used a large laundry bag that folds up pretty small.

Any tips from fellow sufferers from vein problems?

Compression stockings are my best friend and constant companion for the last couple decades (multiple vein surgeries in both legs). They are available in different strengths and usually require a prescription, unless you get them online (maybe Amazon?). You can get them with open toe or closed...

Re: Galego and Spanish on the Camino Frances

I spoke my Latin American Spanish with everyone in Galicia, and surprised the heck out of two shop clerks and some old dudes in a bar when I joined in their galego conversations using my rusty Brasilian Portuguese. Almost everybody who works with tourists speaks English too. You will be fine!

standard of living/quality of life in Spain

I fell in love with Spain and Spanish culture for all the reasons y’all mention above. I’m from the US but have traveled and lived in several Latin American countries. I guess I was expecting Spain to be similar, but was surprised at how different I found it. I felt much safer in Spain! My son...

    Sundays and public holidays

It’s never a bad idea to have snacks! If you are hungry for dinner before 7 or 8pm, you might be out of luck in most places. The dry bag strapped to my pack always contained a fresh bread and cheese, plus little packets of condiments. And a banana. And nuts. Buen Camino!

    Best Salad in Pamplona

I am not a fan of salads, but if you like vegetables please check out Sarasate vegetarian restaurant. The food is amazing and the proprietor is very nice. Even carnivores love the food there!

Packing List Final Review. Starting in a week! :)

Adding to the chorus for at least a sleeping bag liner. I stayed in private rooms in albergues that provide bedding but some places looked kinda sketchy so I slept in my liner on top. They are lightweight and don’t take up a lot of room, so worth it!

CPAP users: how do you bring your machine with you?

I traveled with my full-size ResMed (I think it’s series 11?), with water tank and hose and mask and cable and and and… over 6 pounds total. I put it all (except the mask, because it didn’t fit) in a soft side camera case, then packed it in my small hard-side carryon suitcase. I wrote FRÁGIL...

    What about “té con leche”?😀

Here’s my suggestion to you: in the mornings, ask for “vino tinto” 🤣

    The Camino for LGBTQ

Dear Xosé, I am not a member of the LGBTQ community, but I am a queer ally. I met a lot of people walking the Camino last year, but one couple that made an impression on me was a pareja of two women. They walked holding hands and singing. Their joy was contagious! They were openly affectionate...

Need help deciding to bring or not to bring

I am Team Sarong! Last year I used mine as: a towel, headwrap, instant skirt, shawl, scarf, pillow cover, mattress cover, and one time as an extra layer inside my sleeping bag liner.

So you never put a donkey on your back? (From the article in gallego cited above). 🤣

Bathroom stops on the camino for female Peregrinas

That bathroom was amazing, no? Everything except wiping you afterwards!

    Ordering beer in Spain

Ask for “una mil nueve” which doesn’t actually mean 1009 beers, although some days you might think you could slurp them all down!

    New Camino route identified

I used to live near a podiatrist, Dr. Foote. 🤣
