Married 54 years and my wife seems to ever more keen to encourage me to go off on pilgrimages! Things work between us because she is of a very sweet nature and I am bloody-minded! Still can't understand why she declines to come with me?
So good to see someone encouraging pilgrims to start from Lisbon. I did it 2 years ago and found it tough at times. Now with time to reflect I have great memories, particularly of alberques run by lovely people. I will certainly do it again but plan to take the advice to spread the load.
In 2018 I stayed at Casa da Fernanda and carried on to O Conforto, then just opened. There were only four other pilgrims staying and I had a room to myself. Dinner was ordered from a menu and brought in by the lady whose family owned the albergue. Simple breakfast left out overnight. Quite a...
I will be 76 in April and am also planning to walk VDLP in 2019. This will be my 5th camino and I always attack them as I would a marathon. Despite always promising my wife that I will take it easy and enjoy the scenery I am an absolutely hopeless case. Last year it was Lisbon to Santiago in 3...
I did Ingles in September last year. First day travelling UK to Santiago, bus to Ferrol. Day 1 walking to Pontedeume, taking advantage of shortcut mentioned by previous correspondent. Day 2 relatively short to Bentanzos; Day 3 Meson do Vento 31k; Day 4 Sigueiro 24k; Day 5 Santiago. Short day so...

I did Ingles last year and plan to go again in September. Your account of alternative accommodation is most helpful as I found that getting a place at an albergue was somewhat stressful. Having said that the majority of pilgrims were Spanish and they looked after an elderly Englishman...
I use my 50l Osprey and take it as cabin baggage. It is just about ok for size but I could remove top section if necessary to take on board as permissable small bag to go under seat. I pack my walking poles but take cheap ones that I can accept them being abandoned at security if exception is...
About to embark upon my fourth different camino. My first was from SJP and I had planned every step of the way - what a big mistake! Determined to be on my own but that plan failed by Day 2. Do not worry about what may go wrong - I experienced many blips on the way which provided great amusement...
Starting my fourth camino on 1 May, this time from Lisbon. I get great pleasure from walking on my own but still treasure the memory of the wonderful people I have met.
I walked in July as guidebook said many albergues were only open July and August. From Bilbao experienced overcrowding due to number of young people who were using it as cheap accommodation rather than a pilgrimage. Aggravated by them partying into night. I went onto Primitivo and problem gone.
My first camino was Frances in 2012 when I took a 65 litre bag filled with items to cover every eventuality. The chest strap broke on day 1 due to overloading. I struggled on for three weeks until there was horrendous back pain when vertebrae disintegrated, Next two caminos with lightweight 50...
Planning to travel to Lisbon 28 April 2018 and start walking on 29th. First night on camino was a concern but information about albergue at Alpriate most helpful.
Got room from Bar Luis in Pontedeume. Small but ensuite and only 15euro. Today was even wetter. Started out at 7.30 in heavy rain which continued all morning. Walked into Betanzos with 2 Spanish men I had met at Pontedeume alburgue. We arrived at alburgue at 12.50 and hospitaliar opened up...
After excellent stay at Hotel Almendra in Ferrol started off at 7am in rain which continued on and off all day. Made good progress, arriving at alburgue at Pontedeume at 1.30pm. Not manned and myself and other pilgrims tried in vain to contact the numbers displayed. Eventually gave up and found...
I would favour starting at Irun, which is practical from the point of view of flying from UK to Biarritz and getting bus to Hendaye. I started from Irun at 1pm and arrived at the delightful albergue at Pasajes de San Juan at 5pm. Hard walking but if you take your time should be ok for your wife...
Had looked forward to being on the plane with you and hopefully travelling to Ferrol together. I can understand your disappointment but a seasoned campaigner like you will return fighting!
