Thinking about walking the Via de la Platta this time around, but seems to be a lack of guide books......Any suggestions/recommendations, and sadly don't speak Spanish? I am supposing the Eroski Camino guide is in Spanish?
My friend, just start off one foot in front of the other, stop when you need to, and enjoy yourself. It is not a race, it is a journey and if you go slow and relax it will be the trip of a lifetime......Good luck.....I started off a year ago today, and have heard from so many people I met on The...
Willow........I started this thread some time ago, and I do not know who is also reading this thread today. I certainly don't feel qualified to give an expert opinion on your proposed hike on the Camino, except to say that it is an arduous walk at the best of times, before even taking into...
I started this thread many months ago with the initial posting. If I have got it right there have been 166 responses to my initial post, which absolutely stuns me.
Today I am here because I have, for the first time, been asked to give a talk soon on my experiences with "The Camino". Your...
Interesting words by all.....My thought is however, if it had not been for the Brierly, well read beforehand, carried, still referred to after my journey, and currently, in its beat up position in my living room, I would probably never have set out on this tremendous experience. Well done Mr...
Paddy Creaven's entry of August 8th mentions the Russian repairing a blister of a fellow Caminoist in Rabinal......My friend, that indeed was me, the ex-pat Scot!
I am astonished at the amount of replies to my initial post earlier this year.
I have been absent from this site for a few months as...
Re: Just returned from the Camino....Advice to others 60+ years
Go for it Jeffrey, stop when you are tired, remember to smell the roses, and enjoy it. You will have one if not THE trip of a lifetime!
Good luck.

Re: Just returned from the Camino....Advice to others 60+ years
And for those of you who just want to be comfortable, without looking for the magic elixir of foot protection, I again state...... a decent pair of comfortable boots or shoes, a light smear of $2.00 Vaseline in the evening and...
Re: Just returned from the Camino....Advice to others 60+ years
My husband is not keen to do Camino so may do it on my own ,but would make it hard when home again to not have shared this experience ,any one else with this problem ,should I keep trying to get him to go ?
My wife did not come...
Re: Just returned from the Camino....Advice to others 60+ years
Emelle.......You reflect my feeling perfectly as to what you saw on your Caminos. I can only hope others pick up on your feelings and experience the same euphoria.

Re: Just returned from the Camino....Advice to others 60+ years
Well Larricka...you have done way more "training" than I did. I went to the municipal gym pretty well daily for a couple of months using the treadmill and elliptical machine, and apart from that, little else.
I didn't find you had...
Re: Just returned from the Camino....Advice to others 60+ years
Folks.....I thought I had mentioned it, but clearly I did not......Get yourself a copy of Brierley's guide book on the Camino Frances.....To me it was invaluable.....has everything from "suggested" daily journeys which you don't...
Re: Just returned from the Camino....Advice to others 60+ years
Wow....Thanks folks for all your comments. Glad I could inject some enthusiasm and help to you all.
In answer to a query.... Yes 35 days sounds a good average for the trip from St Jean to Santiago, but even taking longer if you...
Well that was an experience of a lifetime and something nobody who seriously wants to do the Camino should turn from.
Was it difficult? Not overly so.
Sure there were days when I was tired, hot, wet, had sore feet and on onew occassion had a honking great blister that put me off the road for a...
Valcarlos is at a low enough elevation that only rain is predicted. The snow level will be about 500 meters. Roncesvalles' elevation is 944 m, so it will get some snow. The top of the pass on the Napolean route is about 1,300 m. Snow is predicted through Monday, but the snow level will be rising...
Two days before I leave for France, and suddenly I have become, in my mind, physically unfit, my boots don't fit properly, I made a mistake with my back pack choice, the weather in Spain is the worst it has been in decades!!!......So I say to myself...Suck it up Princess, build a bridge and get...
Hi!...My name is Neil. I am 66 and I leave from St John's Newfoundland on 3 April and will probably leave SJPP on the 5th or 6th. I have given myself six weeks to reach Santiago and the intention is to take it nice and slow without blisters, tendonitis, crying for my mother, or too many...
