I'm looking to pick up a pair of poles in Madrid - May 17, 18 or 19 if anyone is carrying some around and wants to recycle them. I will be arriving at the airport mid afternoon of the 17th and staying in midtown Madrid for the 18 and 19 and heading to Oviedo on the train on the 20th.
I use this towel, it's a hair drying towel and I like the size and absorbency.

I will be staying in Madrid Center near the Plaza Mayor on May 18 and 19 before heading to Oviedo to start the Primitivo. Is there anyone looking to rehome a set of hiking poles who will be in Madrid (close to the center) and wants to get rid of their poles before they leave? I can pick them up...
This is great advice! I need poles too, so ordering from Decathalon and having them there for me to pick up in Madrid or Oviedo is a good idea. We are taking the train to Oviedo from Madrid and on the way back flying to Madrid from O Coruna, so somewhere along the line after I finish I hope to...
Thinking out of the box here too... I am a professional longarm quilter and I have lots of 100% wool batting scraps... hmmm. I will try it out in my shoes too!
I've been blessed to walk and finish two Caminos (Ingles and Portuguese Coastal Litoral), one in the Hoka Speedgoat 5s and the other in a Saucony Peregrine. The Speedgoats were much more comfortable with absolutely no complaints. The Peregrines have a thinner sole overall and I could feel a...
Last year in Vigo, I was sitting with my friend down by the Real Club Náutico having a Clara Limón. A gentleman next to us bought us another round and asked us to pray for him in Santiago. When I got there, I lit a candle for him and said a prayer. We also made friends with a gentleman who...
I buy my euros at home before I leave. If you have AAA, they will buy them for you without a fee (or at least only a teeny fee). This can take a couple of days because you have to bring cash to AAA and then they order the euros for you. They also have small denomination euros ($100 worth) in...
I think I misspoke about the removable rubber tips on the poles - I put them on when walking on pavement or boardwalks to stop the click clack, and remove them for long sections of dirt path or unpaved surfaces. I just re-read my post, and it was confusing. I attribute that to the rosé that I...
Post on this forum that you are looking for a pair of poles to use with your dates that you will be in Santiago to get them. I did this last year before starting the Ingles, and a lovely couple left me a pair at a hotel in Santiago with my name on them. I picked them up and enjoyed them and...
Having poles helps keep my hands from swelling with a pack on which is my primary reason for using them when I walk. I also like having them for weight transfer when going up or down, saves my knees. I think having removable rubber tips is essential to stop the click clack noise when on...
I enjoyed Vigo last year very much, we actually slept on a sailboat anchored in the harbor, thanks to a listing on Booking.com! However, we did take a taxi from the outskirts to the marina to avoid the long slog into the city. We also had a great breakfast in town at a lovely, very dainty and...
What a fun thread! I have now stocked my library requests for a plethora of the above mentioned gems.
If I can't be out walking, I will be in - reading about walking!
I’m starting to plan for this route too, for May 2023, and knowing ahead will be helpful. I’m really looking forward to it, I’m just back from the Ingles.
I love my merino, I bought some undies and a T-shirt from Woolx and am very pleased with the lack of body odor, the ease of washing and quickness of drying. Plus I felt less "swampy" than in my synthetic duds. I do my wash every day on the Camino, it's a meditation and ritual for me. My trick...
Actually it was from the balcony of the Hotel in Oia where we were booked, the meal at the restaurant there was top notch too! Yes, the road is close and busy, but the Way is lovely :)
Cash was helpful, so many small expenses (cafe con leche, pinchos, fruit, etc) were easier with it. I presume merchants have to pay a percentage on every card they process, and on a small expense I’m sure they appreciate the cash. The coins are a bit heavy but they spend pretty easily.
