Hi Chris,
The address was not quite right. My fault.my finger slipped. There’s only one “j”. To make things easier, here is the link.

Hi Chris,
My friend and I walked the CdM in Oct of '22 and shared expenses at the hostels to keep the costs down. I basically did all reservations through Booking.com There is one albergue on the route and it is in Viveiro which is run by Oliva Lopez Hermida. (She is also the adm of the CdM...
My friend and I booked ahead given the uncertainty of the route. We then we’re able to split the cost which made it only slightly more pricey than a typical municipal Albergue.
Great solution! It’s basically the same idea Oli Vita Hostel promotes. Walking it backwards is intriguing…I wonder how a different perspective would have changed my experience. We tried to stay at O Forno last year but they were closed and we stayed next door. Good luck getting breakfast before...
Good thoughts. The coast has plenty of its own challenge and is clearly matched by its beauty.
We took a taxi out of Viveiro to the city limits which allowed us to enjoy the walk to Porto do Barquiero. Is that where you are? It’s a beautiful walk.
Thank you for this summary! We walked this last fall and can’t find enough superlatives. Yes the lack of infrastructure and the unfamiliarity of the local populace with “pilgrim ways” was a problem at times but it was part of the journey. All in all, it is a wonderful Camino and we join Oliva in...
Hope you’re enjoying your Camino! You are maybe on day 4? We walked last fall and. Day 4 was one of our more challenging and inspiring days as we walked toward Viveiro. If that’s where you’re going you may want to look up Oliva at the Oli Vita Hostel. She has a wealth of information, runs the...
Thanks for this wonderful post and your incredibly helpful guide! We walked the Del Mar last fall and I agree with all your superlatives. The scenery, challenges, people and solitude make this Camino nothing less than inspiring. The only addition I would make to your comments is that, until this...
It is well worth the detour but makes the walk to Cedeira a bit more complex. Several options from Teixido. When we walked last fall we went from Ortigueira to Carino and stayed there before the challenging walk the next day to Teixido.
Totally agree! Google maps may tend to stick to roads and miss the incredible beauty of the walk along the coast. It’s helpful to have the choice. Use the Cicerone guide but also Wikiloc (search for Cantabrico and Del Mar) and you’ll be able to track your way in live time. It helps when the Way...
We did the Del Mar last Sept/Oct-Ribadeo to Santiago. Can share our stages or you can find them on Wikiloc. Generally, made reservations through Booking (and a few others when accommodations were sparse). Infrastructure is still weak but that is part of developing a functional Camino. June/July...
For this walk, we made reservations at pensions. My understanding that
Because of all sorts of circumstances, including the nature of the walk, this time we decided to reserve accommodations at pensions in advance. My understanding is that you are not allowed to sleep on the trail unless you’ve...
I can’t speak to the walk from Irun to Ribadeo, but did the Del Mar (combined with the Cantabrico) last month. I have the routes identified on Wikiloc. As one local noted, the Del Mar is “official” but not really “functional”. Because of the lack of much infrastructure, it felt like we were on...
Currently walking the Del Mar and stopped near Fox in driving rain. All things, including credencial, are soaked. Credencial is destroyed. Any chance to get a new one in Fox or at the cathedral at Mondonedo?
Of the three most popular: Orange, Movistar, and Vodafone, which SIM card works best for walking the Del Mar given the seemingly remote looking areas on the route?
