Hi,
The columns are about 2.5 Kms before Sahagun. They are close to the Ermita de la Virgen del Puente. If you go onto Google Earth they are visible close by and the ermita is labelled.
Usually Cana, grande, then they ask English and out comes an even bigger glass. If you need nourishment add a Magnum. If it hot have a Radler, beer plus Lemon, on draft.
As I carry poles, I check my rucsack. I put my rain cover on backwards, so that it covers the straps and back. This makes them less likely to get snagged. I finish it with a nylon strap, with buckle around the middle, and a good label, with my details. It has worked for my last six Caminos.

I used to have a photo of me, but I changed it to my version of a Menu del Dia, a large beer and a Magnum. It was taken at Kilometre 15, enroute into SDC, about 30 degrees Celsius, most welcome.
I have never felt the need to take any luxury item on a backpacking trip. But someone thinks that a Digeridoo and inline skates are useful on the Camino Frances.
Henry the dog,
I can empathize with you completely. My knees have been falling apart for some years now. Fortunately reduced distances and stronger knee supports are still holding them together, for now!
My better half's back problems, now mean that her walking distances are too short for...
Walking out from Ponferrada, a bit too much road, a bit too much sun. A quiet peaceful walk, ignoring the traffic, no peregrinos around, glad to be back on the Camino. A short stop at a local bar, for some quiet contemplation. A cold beer and some Olives help the mood, I was enjoying myself. CF...
I too arrived in Astorga with a deteriorating knee, CF June 2016. After a somewhat rainy 10 miles, I had decided that a hotel was called for. The receptionist at the Astur Plaza, was also kind enough to let me check in early. The room was lovely, sadly the breakfast coffee was awful. If I stayed...
We often have many old churches, but few modern ones. This is San Ildefonso's, Camponayara, West of Ponferrada. CF May 2019. It had a very welcoming feel to it and a tranquility, it also had Storks nesting on it's tower.
A Roman milepost, enroute to Redondela. CP May 2019. I imagine that the person who erected it, would never had imagined how many people would walk past it.
It may seem heretical to some, but I love local cafe/bars, where there are no peregrinos/as. The gentle nod on entry, then the conversation resumes. the world is put to rights, local problems are resolved, or last night's TV discussed, and of course, the compulsory dog.
CF May 2019 Villafranca...
I have a confession to make, I do not like Bachalhau. I have tried, but never found one to my taste. Merluza (Hake), on the other hand I can eat a lot of, especially in Galicia. Picture is in A,Coruna, Camino Inglese Sept 2018.
