April 18, 2024 Camino Sanabres
Approaching Faramontanos de Tabara a few minutes past noon, hoping for an open bar (which did not materialize). No surprises awaiting along this stretch of the path!
April 18, 2024 Camino Sanabres, Granja de Moreruela to Tabara
Leaving the little village of Granja de Moreruela, I turned left to follow the Camino Sanabres towards Ourense, and eventually Santiago.
That’s amazing! This spring there was a lot of rain on the VdlP. Pilgrims I met who had come from Sevilla told dramatic stories of the flooding and mud.
April 17, 2024 Via de Plata, day 2
Around mid-morning we passed an enormous ruined wall in the distance, which went down to the river and would have enclosed a sizeable fortress. It must have been the Castillo de Castrotorafe mentioned in the Wise Pilgrim guide.

Montamarta to Granja de Moreruela
First photo of the day, leaving Montamarta by the road bridge. The actual Camino is under the water.
Great advice above. I don’t think anyone else has mentioned this though: the double socks you tried may have made your boots even tighter, thus multiplying the blisters.
I always wear Wright socks because they have a built in liner, and they work well for me. If you are going to buy new socks...
April 16, 2024 Via de la Plata
An early afternoon photo from my first day of walking, from Zamora to Montamarta. The bright colours of the wildflowers against the blue of the sky caught my eye.
April 15, 2024 Zamora
I didn’t have time to go into most of the beautiful Romanesque churches in Zamora, as they all closed up by 2:00. However, the walk through the old part of the city towards the cathedral and the castle revealed glorious views and striking architecture at every turn.
April 14, 2024
After two days of travel from Canada, I arrived in Zamora to begin the Camino Sanabres. My first photo, leaving the train station, heading towards my hostal.
Last month I stayed at Hostal La Trucha, 40 Euros, nice place. Hadn’t planned on stopping there but my phone quit working, it was a public holiday so I had to wait until the next day to get it fixed. I liked the town.
So I stayed at Casa Nuñez in Campobecerros yesterday. Peregrina 2000 had reserved a room for me. There were no bedbugs. If there had been I would have known because I am very sensitive to their bites. It was not luxury accommodation by any means but I have stayed in worse places on the Camino...
On this day two years ago, in the Templar Church at Villalcazar de Sirga, Saint James leads the way.
I will be on the Camino Sanabres very soon, starting in Zamora next week. New photos!

I had sought solitude on this Camino, and according to this habit that I had developed, I went to the early morning mass in the cathedral, instead of the pilgrim mass at noon.
