the whole weight thing needs to be approached very scientific
until it comes to 200g merino dresses
this is essential pilgrim attire
its only once youve penetrated the inner circle of the pilgrim network that they tell you this
.
so consider this a heads-up
.
it is regarded as very pilgrimish to...
caitlin dearie
there are 2 options here
either
option 1: you put on 10kays by eating sticky buns for a month (this will increase your 10% body weight rule) - clevver hay ?
or
option 2: you shed 10kays, thus reducing your overall load of body + pack, and then who cares what the percentage ratio...
hi paddy
this is your chance to dress up in lycra
and have good reason
.
the theory is that the lycra material reduces friction
the tech versions wick away the moisture
the slightly longer leg length prevents skin-on-skin rubbing
and the contoured front holds your tackle snugly where it sould be...
i tied my trainers with NewBalance Bubble laces
and can highly recommend
they give you tying options
see link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000IBDO6I/?tag=casaivar02-20
the upside was that the bubbles hold where ever they are positioned, allowing a looser toe-box tighter in the mid section, and...
ive had same with previous boots
there's a pressure point on the outside bottom (very tech name!) of each ankle
its got nothing to do with badly fitting boots etc
its merely the boot touching that point
(and it only happens to special people)
the effect is almost crippling
.
solution
- get some...
email a copy of all valuable docs to youeself, eg passport, flight ticket, prescription for meds, medical insurance details
no need to panic if you get mugges and your kit stolen
just find an internet cafe, and youre back in business
in 40 deg C
10 kays from Guillena
on the vdlp
in mid Sept
on my first day on the camino
.
i had bought this neat piece if tech
which measured the amount of water consumed
how much was left in the reservois
Camelbak Flowmeter
brilliant
only 10 kays and 2.4 litres of water left
wonderful thank...
you might want to take a look at the OMM chest pouch
Heres a review:
Need more space in front of you for bits and bobs?
The OMM Trio 4 litre chest pouch is very useful if you require extra space or your pack doesn't have hip belt pockets. Designed to fit any rucksack, it will hold a water...
i wore 2 pairs of thin liners
i carried 4 pairs
and changed sox every intra day
no blisters in 1000 kays
.
worked for me
.
imho
you should have done sufficient training in your sox (exact gear) not to have ANY surprises on the walk
you should know exactly how your shoes sox pack will behave
it...
i was more interested in my personal wellbeing
rather than complying with the law
so my back-pack's rain cover electro-orange-luminous with reflective strips was great
it was used in early morning stats
in the gloom of rainy days
and more importantly - when the first gunshot from the hunters...
hmmmm
interesting debate here
.
i am full of admiration for those of you that can fit your stuff into a teeny bag
but i detect an obsession with having the smallest bag
and i dont get it
as long as you keep your kit weight down to a manageable number
and you are comfortable
whats the big deal
...
@ tyrrek re not being able to tell how much water remains in the bladder....
i bought a Camelback gadget called a Flow Meter
this expensive device fits in the sucking tube
and measures the flow of water, and hence can determine whats left in the bag
giving you a digital readout
so problem solved...
on the vdlp in sept / oct
with temps upper 30 to early 40 deg C
i carried a full 3 lt camelback
the additional weight was zero, but it gave me options
as it got cooler and my body acclimatised, i reduced the fill to the distance and weather for the day ahead
.
i walked with a crazy thirsty...
imho
most of the debate about which kit is best
is magnified by a number of factors unrelated to the kit itself
threads debating equipment generally dont cater for
route
season
.
so an innocent question asked about a sleeping bag
will have utterly confusing information for the newcommer
because...
so heres my list of 10 essentials
that i discarded on the camino
.
gaiters
thermo mug
extra fleecy top
towel
foldup water container
digger
sunglasses
extra tech shirt
plate
and spork
.
when i set out walking they were essentials
100kays later they were unnecessary burdens
