A wonderful Camino is the Portugese interior which I believe joins the Vdlp. Very quiet, genuine walkers and lots of interesting towns. We went last October and had some great days walking in but sunshine and heavy rain. Equally as nice.
I cant really give you much in terms of food ideas but I will say I've had the most amazing dinners/ lunches when buying from the supermarket and whenever I do a pasta dish I keep it vegetarian so it keeps for lunch the following day. Its also a great way to meet other pilgrims and so much...
Yes. I understand your point. Its just that many pilgrims make noise late at night or early in the morning. When I'm on route and stay in a Dorm I make sure never to make noise and leave early every time. Waking others is inconsi
Well its not self praise really. Its more a matter of reacting to...
Why would I have to share a room when I never wake anyone. Pack and prepare the night before. Leave the room and do all other preparation away from the Dorm. It's simple and considerate. No noise made ever on any Camino.
That's a bit extreme. Every Camino I've walked has involved early rising and I'm a very considerate person. The important thing is to have the morning exit prepared. Backpack full and leave the room immediately without any noise or lights. All changing, washing and other stuff is done outside...
Like yourself I come from the Auld country and have completed a few Caminos now. Its all about shoes and socks for me and always getting Leuko tape straight onto those hotspots. Stopping and changing socks also work. Most of the time I've been blister free and other times I didn't realise I had...
Hi. If you consider buying in supermarkets and eating lunch from this on the trail it is very enjoyable and encomical. On average with more expensive hostels even its usually around 50 a day.
Hi. I understand where you are coming from with regards to the last 100kms. When I did Del Norte in 2019 I took a detour and only joined the madness for the last 10kms. As people have said there are alternative routes. Having also done the Portuguese I found the last two stages cumbersome with...
Hi. Firstly I have to agree in relation to Magwood. Her Blogs are brilliant and she is so helpful if you ask her anything. Secondly and a bit off topic but my biggest issue isn't livestock but it's the amount of dogs. Recently I got bitten while out walking here at home and it's the...
I think the thread is really about our need for caffeine and like everything else on the Camino we make do with our caffeine fix regardless of shape and form. A cup of tea or a can of coke is also a substitute. Remember many pilgrims who are on tight budgets will group together pilgrims for the...
Hi. My solution for this problem is to get a take away coffee the night before and basically drink it cold in morning if no microwave available. It's not Ideal but I get an incredible headache without my morning fix and this solution had saved me many mornings. I also love the experience of...
When I go its like detaching from everyday life. Once asked I explained " its like meditation that's only ends when you reach your final destination". I'm going to Porto in May so I can leave life behind once again and get in touch with the auld H.P for 14 days and that's good enough for me. Daniel
Well I'm just back from walking the Camino Portuguese and most of those I met were nice thoughtful pilgrims. Unfortunately we met four ladies walking who were very loud and crass. One of them was handing out slips of paper with her Instagram account and asking everyone to pin her on Instagram...
From La Caridad through Vegadao which was mind blowing. There were only 3 of us who had met on the way and we only met one other pilgrim en route. So my own dream would be to live somewhere on or near the lesser know routes. Time will make these routes popular but in the meantime its "far from...
Regardless of where we go in life the first person we meet is ourselves. I hated coming home to where I live now but that has changed as I got to know and accept myself. Now it's OK. As for the Camino and Spain. It's the dream really. I would however remind myself that it is constantly changing...
Hi. I've been over 3 times to complete Del Norte. Twice I went on my own and these were by far my best experiences. I met more people on these occasions but even though I walked on my own both times I ended up with a Camino family. Each evening we hung out and we were all set to meet up again in...
Hi. I've had mixed experiences many like you have mentioned above. Friends, family, other pilgrims etc. The times I've went on my own are always the times I've ended up meeting loads of pilgrims. For me its always about the effects it has on the experience. Whenever I'm walking with others or...
