And of course engrish.com, always good for a few laughs.
When tramping around Bali in '91, we were amused at ads for Chicken Gordon Blue, Spaghetty, and the like. I approach translation as source of great merriment.
Nothing scoldworthy in the least. A gentle reminder though: language is a living thing, a moving target. I doubt any names will be the "same" in a hundred years.
Oh, and Alex, nothing, not even light, travels as fast as bad news ;)
Being an American, this YOGIism comes to mind : "Nobody goes there anymore because it's too crowded." That remark alone dissolves all my fear over lodging concerns in a puddle of hysterical laughter. (Still looking at our mid-June plan)
I applaud your heroic effort on behalf your friend. In fact, I (and tout le monde) would do well to have a friend like you. Sounds like the beginning of...a grand adventure. However, to paraphrase a remark made in a "sci fi" novel (Philip K. Dick) in which a therapist advises his patient...
We're about in the same "boat" I think, trying to plan for a short June Camino. Our prior international flights have been out of LAX, and have involved a 4-5 hr. drive just to get there--necessitating an overnight stay in some airport area hotel with fly/park options. So another layer of travel...
Thanks, Kat. Fine blog you have btw, thanks for sharing. I think the greatest challenge for me will be shrinking my personal bubble; I trust the rest of the details to sort themselves out.
Fantastic, thanks for posting. We've only got 2 weeks around next June and are pondering our first (partial) Camino. Was it very much busier from Sarria to SJDC than the other sections?
Just saw it at the Palm (SLO) yesterday. The trailer gives a very accurate idea of what to expect (about the film itself, I mean), unlike trailers for most other films. Liked it very much, although the house showing seemed pale and washed out. Wonder if this is the way the DVD will look, or just...
Well, this thread certainly gives us food for thought. After some initial consideration--the route, our resources (budgetary and otherwise), and physical conditions, we thought Sarria to Santiago in just over a week was do-able entirely on foot. Still true, perhaps, but stopping at any points...
Thanks, will take all this under consideration.
When you say "posted before", do you mean in a thread elsewhere or..?
Also, we'll have no previous Camino experience as a baseline, so will likely enjoy and be grateful for everything.
-on a side note, our first experience in Bali doing the...
Thank you, Olivares. Still pondering. Limited time and resources available, and uncertain about future good health-- hence the need to choose a portion. Common wisdom has the first "leg" being the most challenging. I expect it to be busier and more packed with philistines and gormless...
Thanks, falcon. Looking at June (schedule allows atm), so costs up about 50% from your ex. Most of these appear to be two stops (e.g.,JFK, MIA ) which I think my be better anyway--last long flight (to Bali) my wife's legs got uncomfortable, maybe not DVT but some cause for concern in...
