Flat walk through Siguiero, but then the walk from Siguiero to SdC is not flat and has some tiring punchy uphill bits which are testing as you are tiring, thinking the last stage is an easy one
4 days guidebook stages are:
Ferrol to Pontedeume 29km
Pontedeume to Betanzos 20km
Betanzos to Hospital de Bruma 28km
Hospital de Bruma to Santiago 40km
All long stages, doable, but the Ingles is not flat.
if you can afford, stop on the third day in Casa Rural Donnamaria in Buscas, which...
I would avoid the old route via Bar Julia and up to Bruma. Although the new route has more road, especially a boring part walking past an electricity substation, it does cut out the very fearsome hill that the old route took. The new route is a long gentle incline, and you keep questioning...
I walked in the Ingles in March. Was not cold, but rained every day. Needed a golf umbrella, real walking boots, and other wet weather gear. Summer will be warmer, but one advantage of the spring is the lack of other pilgrims walking. I only saw 3 or 4 other people walking per day. Means there...
Just to add in, I am in my 50's, do no sport and did no training before I did the Ingles. I walk 10km every day, but had never walked over 20km, ever. I was completely daunted when I set off from Ferrol.
However, walking at just 4km per hour means that if you walk 8 or 9 hours a day, counting...
flying into A Coruna is often cheaper than flying to Santiago.
agree what @bronzevernis says about not underestimating jetlag. Consider spending a night in A Coruna and then taking the train to Ferrol from A Coruna next day. Better to spend down time in A Coruna than in Ferrol. Advantage of...
I second what @Betterisgood says. The taxi drivers wait until the last flight at night from London has arrived, and will wait even if the flight is late. There should be a taxi at La Coruna airport for you.
Taxi fare is a bit steep for the transfer to the city. Expect to pay € 35 or so, but...
Ingles is quiet, which is one of the attractions of it, compared to more popular caminos. I would not worry about not having a queue of pilgrims in front of you. The ingles is safe.
The one thing you need to bear in mind is that bars, restaurants and shops may be 2 hours between eachother. So...
Bella, on the Betanzos to Casa Rural Donnamaria stage, there are basically two places to have lunch
1. the museum at Presedo - lovely place, but after an 8am start, I hit here at 11am and it was too early for lunch, but had a coffee and pastry
2. Bar Avelina - really did not like the look of...
Lskeen,. It is easier to book the Correos service by internet. You can book it the whole way through in advance, or day by day. Correos has a useful English language website see below, which a muggins like me was able to use...
Trevor, I estimated 36km from Betanzos to Casa Rural Donnamaria.
That sounds a lot, but at a slow 4km per hour, it took me 10 hours, including coffee at Presedo and stopping for lunch at the picnic area by the lake at Vao (took my own lunch as there are not many places to eat on this stage...
Casa Rural Donna Maria in Buscas was the best place I stayed on in the Ingles.
Just 4 rooms, refurbished to a high standard, some with washing machine, lovely garden. Well worth the extra 1.5 hours flat walk past Hospital de Bruma. From Betanzos, the walk to Buscas took 10 hours, and it cuts...
Correos does not send or pick up bags from municipal albergues. They only pick up from private albergues, hostels and hotels. You can also pick up or drop off from the post offices themselves, which is good for most stops on the Ingles except Hospital de Bruma.
I sfayed in hotels and private...
Dave, the ingles is not like the Frances. The next town for accommodation, especially in the middle stages, may be over 2 hours away. I would be safe, and pre-book accommodation on the Ingles
Sophie, I am not sure that there is anyone apart from Correos who transports bags on the Ingles. Unless you walk on an pre-arranged tour with a travel company, where your bags are also transported.
Ben, Correos transport any bag, as long as it weighs less than 23kg. That means that they...
If you fly to Santiago, train is more comfortable than bus from Santiago, but it takes twice as long as the bus, and goes via La Coruna. One advantage is that when the train comes to Betanzos, it covers the first two guidebook stages in reverse, so you can see the Ingles route.
However, I note...
At Pontedeume, the Vicarage is on the right as you walk up the hill opposite the church. If I remember correctly, the vicarage had a big black door. Knock on the door, and if you are lucky, they will be there, and either open the church, give your pilgrim passport a stamp, or both.
Correos only sends to private albergues, pensions or hotels. Or you can pick your bag up at the post office in say, Pontedeume or Betanzos. I have seen others sayin earlier threads that Correos does deliver to the albergue at Hospital de Bruma though.
Unless you book through one of the tour...
