So far, based on 4 CF's, I can say I haven't experienced any local rudeness. Indifference perhaps. But I get that. I've lived in a few very popular resort towns, and although I've never been rude myself to a tourist, I don't think I have ever gone out of my way to welcome one. I have come across...
I agree. I almost cringe when I hear someone speaking of "hiking" the Camino. To my ear, to call it "hiking" is a diminution of what we do. Yes, I suppose hiking vs walking is a bit of distinction without a difference. But, somehow, referring to it as hiking . . . well, it almost sounds...
Ok, the collective wisdom of the Forum has caused me to rethink my somewhat over the top response about snoring. I survived four years of communal living in the military, including seagoing accommodations that make Camino close quarters seem like resort living. So, I should darn well be able to...
This issue and the discussions/disagreements regarding how to handle it have been on the Forum for as long as I can remember. I am astounded that people who know they snore are willing to inflict it on everyone in the room. Yes, yes, we walk our own Camino and it's a matter of personal rights...

Yesterday, I detoured from Sarria and took the bus to Lugo for a day/overnight. I had been there twice before, once to fill a couple days after Santiago and before the flight home. It is enchanting. and easy to travel to and from
Last year in early September there was some rain forecast while I was in Sarria. We bought 3 Euro umbrellas from the China store there, used them one day and simply disposed of it not wanting to carry even the 12 ounces or so. I got to Bayonne this year on May 20 and it sprinkled a bit. In SJPDP...
It's only a one hour bus ride to Lugo, with several departures during the day. I've been to Lugo twice. It is one of the most charming places I've ever visited. I like it so much that on my June Camino this year, I'm going to take the bus from Sarria just to spend the night there, then bus...
I have a self-imposed standing rule, that if a Parador is less than $100, I stay--that price is almost always way in advance. So far, twice in Santo Domingo and once in Leon when I got a discount on a slow day in 2016 before the remodel, and it was right at $100.
But more accessible financially...
Thanks. That's always a good measure of food in general is you couldn't stop thinking about it. I'm going to head right there when I arrive about August 2. When you say down the street, I assume you mean back towards plaza obradoiro.
Where in Estella? Was it that at that Happy Days 50's diner on the plaza to the left of the church? Kind of kidding about the diner, but my other guess would be Casa Carmen I think it is, on the right just before the high arched bridge--didn't even notice if they had hamburgers last July because...
Although I wouldn't necessarily miss it on the Camino, once or twice I would like to find a really good hamburger somewhere. I have tried a bunch, and they were just not that good--the beef tough/chewy e.g. Of course, I'm comparing it to burgers I'm used to in the U.S. It makes me wonder if...
