Surprised at our test results poncho vs jacket

I’m a GG Kumo (with an inexpensive Karimor 10L dry sac) and UL kilt/skirt gal too without umbrella 😉 best combo for comfort, effectiveness and above all lightweight functionality. Altus poncho now weighs 350gm (was over 500 gm) at the expsense of material quality but still too heavy for me vs my...

Surprised at our test results poncho vs jacket

Rain jacket plus a RAIN KILT (very ultra lightweight, quick on and off, fits in a shoulder strap pocket, easy to put on and take off, wind & waterproof and keeps pants and underwear dry). For me a poncho has 1 use vs a rain jacket can be worn even if not raining and the kilt can be used as a...

1,000 Miles in a Lumbar Pack: Ultralight Camino de Santiago Packing List

Thanks and it’s food for thought. I’m soon starting the Via Francigena and my goal is 3.5kg total pack weight in my gossamer gear Kumo.

    Hoka U TOR SUMMIT Shoe

I wear Hokas too (Bondi, Stinson, Speedgoat) the latter are the least thick soled. Because I insert a custom made hard shell orthotic I don’t feel rocks but the Speedgoat are the least thick soles.

    Hoka U TOR SUMMIT Shoe

I started in the Bondi 5, had 2 pairs of 6’s, a 7 and now the 8’s …...I hope the 9 is not even bigger vs the 8 🤦‍♀️ I wish they’d stop modifying them.

    A Great Sleeping Bag Deal!

    Do you know the weight?

    A Great Sleeping Bag Deal!

I can’t find the weight info, do you know how many grams it weighs? Is it a single or for 2 given the photo shows a double width bag. Thanks.

My Experience with Hoka Challenger ATR 7s: A Camino Report

Good to know and thanks. I’m a Bondi girl but will walk the Le Puy to (God & body willing) to Santiago early Sept in STINSONS ATR 6’s. I need a plusher shoe vs Challenger ATR and the lugs should be ok but I do believe I’ll need a second pair if I am able to go beyond SJPDP

    Let's talk waist packs!

What brand as I’m looking for a waterproof waist pack. Most are not despite their apparent waterproof material. Thanks.

Boots or Hokas for the Central Route

I did the central from Lisbon all the way in Hoka Bondi plus hiking poles always. Boots aren’t needed. The only super rocky section is at Labruja but I did it without any issues.

Surprisingly excellent (and inexpensive) equipment successes--shock corded water bottle and towel

Two great tips. Thanks and enjoy your Camino! Btw so far it’s a crappy spring back in Ontario.

Hoka Shoe Owners: Speedgoat 5 or the Bondi 8?

I recently completed the San Salvador and the Primitivo in BONDI 7…..zero slippage despite mud, wet rocks, wet leaves. I was surprised. I dislike that each Bondi version is getting wider. Not sure I’ll buy version 8 or go to another model.

    Hokas with wet grip?

    Super response THANKS I will.

    Hokas with wet grip?

Does the leatherette tongue chaff the front of the ankle? I’ve read this complaint when they switched from the more foamy material tongue. Are they a plush / cushiony feeling ? Thanks

    Hokas with wet grip?

My Salomon trail runners on the Norte had zero tread after 500 km. I switched to Hoka as the Salomon didn’t fair well in the constant rain and caused a serious metatarsalgia. Since Hokas I’m pain free.

    Hokas with wet grip?

Please post your experience in the Speedgoat once on the Salvador. I’m between the Tecton vs Stinson ATR

    Hokas with wet grip?

I just tried on the new and very expensive HOKA Tecton trail runners with nice Vibram sole lugs. I’m considering them vs my Bondi (I’m a dedicated HOKA wearer).

Packing list : How to keep your feet dry in case of Heavy rain - A Cheap and light weight hack

Smart wool socks! I’ve walked days on end in rain all day in the Norte and although feet were wet I didn’t feel that they were wet. IMHO Plastic bags I’m sure would slide around in shoes and risk ankle twisting.

    Drones

I just returned from my 4th Camino (portuguese central from Lisbon). I didn’t encounter any drones let alone many fellow pilgrims. Although you’re not doing the Camino for “spiritual” reasons if you’re occupied with a drone you’ll miss out on your the magic of disconnecting from this especially...
