    Stolen poles

    Stolen or taken in error?

    Tipping?

If your bills are less than €10 then €1 is a good tip. As I said above, no obligation to tip and people who are too tight to tip won't anyway, like I said, if you are happy with the service be generous.

    Tipping?

If your bill came to say €50 rounding it up to €51 would be very insulting.

    Tipping?

This old pancake comes up regularly, the short answer I have is that tipping in Spain is not obligatory like say in the US but is very much appreciated by the staff. I would normally tip to the tune of about 10%, for coffee etc just round up. If the service is bad I don't tip. Don't let people...

    Low-hanging fruit

Best answer yet. It annoyed me to see pilgrims picking grapes along the path where there wasn't any fencing, had they known of the chemical concoction that had been sprayed on said grapes to prevent blight and insect damage they might have left them alone.

Will the Protest Against Tourists in Barcelona Come to Santiago?

The problem with tourists not being welcomed in Spain and other cities in Europe is mostly caused by greedy property owners evicting local long term tenants in favour of higher short term lets to tourists, this is causing a housing cricis all over tourist hotspots, the locals are sick of it and...

    Barcelona and Tourist Taxes

Accommodation for tourists has to be sorted in a way that does not impact on locals being able to get affordable accommodation in their own area. This is a big problem in Ireland as well, the whole industry seems to be driven by greed now rather than common sense.

    Barcelona and Tourist Taxes

Many of these articles are pure hype, the English press are full of them at the moment because of protests in the Canary islands against over tourism. It is hard to blame the locals as many cannot afford to rent or buy accommodation because there is more money to be made renting short term on...

Do some people not get stamps?

    Great answer.

Do some people not get stamps?

The question springs to mind, if people are not interested in collecting stamps or getting a Compostela should they be staying in albergues?

    Camino by Coach

@trecile, if you are online please close this thread, it's gone so far off topic I've forgotten what the topic was and I've run out of popcorn. Think of the children.

    Camino by Coach

I wonder did the pilgrims of old bitch about the priests and bishops who went on pilgrimage by carriage and stayed with other clergy on the way, did they say that they weren't real pilgrims, just carriagearinos.

    Camino by Coach

A pilgrimage is defined as a journey to a Holy place. There was nothing Holy about D Day or the beaches where it happened. It was more a journey of remembrance.

    Camino by Coach

"A pilgrimage is a journey to a holy place, which can lead to a personal transformation, after which the pilgrim returns to their daily life." Nowhere in there does it say that you HAVE to walk. Do your own pilgrimage if you really want to and don't worry about how others do it is my advice.

    Camino by Coach

This is nothing new, saw it in 2012 and 2013, didn't like it at the time but I've lost some of my rough edges over time and now believe that a pilgrimage is a pilgrimage no matter how you achieve it. I saw the same in India some years ago, hundreds of pilgrims going on a pilgrimage of a...

    Camino fatigue?

Health reasons kept me from doing repeat caminos so the addiction faded, I still hiked in France and Spain but on my own terms and became a fair weather hiker. After seeing the conga lines on the Frances over the last few years I'd be slow to do another one.

    Niggling hates (dislikes) on Camino

When I travel abroad I try not to compare everything with home, it's a recipe for disaster. If you are going to do that.. better to stay at home.

    Drones

Don't you just hate it when others try to enjoy their Camino as well. 🙄
