Sleeping in a dorm room where there's someone with a CPAP

Beats the alternative! I think after a social communal dinner involving one or more vino tinto's most pilgrims would welcome the sleep apneic among them use a CPAP device. Personally speaking, I was in the upper bunk at the Estella Municipal Albergue and was apparently snoring quite loudly...

    Hep A/B vaccination

Hep A and B immunizations are fairly routine in North America and Western Europe. In Canada Hep B immunization is routine in all children in Grade 7 (2 needles at that age). Although the risk is low for most people, my feeling is why not get them. If you are travelling for a month in Spain...

    Porto to Santiago

I think you will love it. I only walked from Porto to Vila do Conde; then turned inland onto the central route. I had a sunny pleasant day and the boardwalk and views were amazing. Tons of cool waterside eateries to get coffee and a nice meal. Have Fun JIT

    Camino Portugues from Lisbon

I walked from Tomar to Santiago in mid April of this year. Tomar to Coimbra is quite nice with a mix of soft and hard walking surfaces. Shortly North of Coimbra to Porto is mainly cobblestone and asphalt and quite busy with road traffic. Lots of places to stay. I mixed my stay with albergues...

Primitivo is calling, but concerned about the amount of people..

Thanks, good point I actually used Enders guide on the Salvador and the Wise Camino app from time to time on the Primitivo but only when I feared I was off the trail. Jamie

Primitivo is calling, but concerned about the amount of people..

I found the Salvador to be very well marked. I never went of the trail, which I did do by accident on the Primitivo as there seemed to be a lot of other non-camino arrows which got me mixed up a few times. Similar on the Portugues south of Porto, it wasn't well marked. I often use the...

Primitivo is calling, but concerned about the amount of people..

I walked the SanSalvador and Primitivo together in May 2017. I posted this a while ago, but it may help. I walked the Camino Frances in May 2016 with my daughter and then did my first solo Camino on the Salvador (Leon to Oviedo) then Primitivo (Oviedo - SDC) in May 2017. It was probably one of...

    Wises or Brierley

Just walked from Tomar to SDC late April I used both guides. The Camino prior to Porto can be less than optimally marked in places and many times the yellow arrows are faded and match the colour off the moss on the poles. I accidentally walked off the trail 5-6 times. I found the off line GPS...

Sending my post-camino clothes from Lisbon to Santiago

I thought I would offer follow-up on my postage experience. While in Canada I printed out Ivar's address on a piece of paper with bold ink the way he suggests on his web page. I brought my small bag to the CTT office in the Lisbon Airport (up the stairs in T2) and I took Frida1's advice and...

Night 1 heading north from Fatima.

Thanks for your responses. I have decided to start in Tomar. Jamie

Primitivo is calling, but concerned about the amount of people..

I walked the Salvador followed by the Primitivo starting May 10th 2017. There were plenty of people to meet. In Grado there was not enough room in the albegue and people had to walk 5km extra to the next town (without services). Other than that I was able to find accommodations with out...

Night 1 heading north from Fatima.

That exactly the information I am looking for. I simply need a place to sleep and eat. that being said, I am torn about a going to Tomar as I have heard from others that it is spectacular. It will mean a few 40 km days for me to meet my deadline but it may be worth it. Thanks.

Night 1 heading north from Fatima.

I am walking from Fatima to SDC on a somewhat tight schedule. My plan is to walk 30 km north to Ribeiro do Farrio and then on to Rabacal where I will join the Camino Portugues. Does anyone have experience staying in Ribeira do Farrio. The listed accommodation is at Farrio's Bar however I...

Sending my post-camino clothes from Lisbon to Santiago

Thanks for your all of your responses. I looked into both sending my clothes with Tuitrans vs buying new clothes. Tuitrans only operates from Porto to SDC, so I will have to get my bag to Porto from Lisbon. My wife also told me that I should simply buy new clothes, however, last year I went to...

Sending my post-camino clothes from Lisbon to Santiago

I am walking from Lisbon (actually Fatima) to Santiago in mid April. I would like to forward a small bag of clothes to Santiago for some post-camino R and R. I have used the Correos and Express Bourricot on the Camino Frances but can't seem to find any way to send excess luggage in Portugal...

Bringing CBD Oil to Europe in Luggage

I haven’t read all responses but it appears you haven’t yet tried CBD oil to see if it helps you or not. Or whether it impairs your function. It is legal in Canada where I live but has not been proven as a treatment for acute non-neuropathic type pain. I think I’d pass on this treatment and use...

Is it practical to plan to travel CDG - SJPDP in one day?

I have done this trip twice in the past 3 years with my flight arriving at CDG at 0800 from Toronto. I was even able to go to the Eiffel Tower with my daughter and have lunch at a café before catching my Hop flight in 2016 and the train in 2018. In 2018 we even made it in time despite changing...

Hiking Quotes - just for fun.

Favorite quote (lyrics) Bob Marley: "My feet is my only carriage" which some people feel is actually "my faith is my only courage". Either sounds good to me. Favorite word coined during my recent camino was made by my daughter who one evening used the word "albergue" to represent not only...
