IMHO the version of Conrad Stein is very, very good ! I used it in 2006 and saw at their website a lot of comments of people with some very good advices about the route, etc.
Good Camino,
Evan,
Maybe this will help you: http://www.gronze.com/camino-de-santiago/mapas-generales.htm
and .......... The Norte starts at Irun (not in San Sebastian) at the bridge between Hendaya and Irun!
First track to SS is great!!
Paul
IMHO: crossing the bridge to Irun gives you 2 options : directly on your right there are some shops AND a simple hotel ( don't remember the name!).
There's also an albergue in Irun run by the association of pelgrims in Irun: if you google you will find them!
PB: it's less then a 5 minute walk...
marek,
The name is : Jacobsweg/Kustenweg of Michael Kasper & Michael Moll. Edition via Conrad Stein Verlag. ISBN 978-3-86686-071-1
Excellent guide (which I used myself in 2006) when you can manage the german language!
Good luck!

That elevator.....I did not know what I saw there!
For all the others, here's a picture:
Have a great time and don't forget to put your shoes off and walk a part along the sea-side! Tip: do the last part of the stretch Ribadesella to La Isla along the beach. Via La Isla you can...
Karen,
I thought that the distance is about 24 km so San Sebastian can be done in one day. Don't know what you mean with beginner.....not trained or the first time?
Greetings,
paul
Elzi,
For an impression take a look at my pictures at the photo's in the section of the North-route:
camino-del-norte-blogs-photo-album/topic5618.html .
I really don't know what's wrong with that section, besides the not-so-good wheather we had.
Some part of the stretch is on asphalt....but if...
Yes, definitely.....It's great there!
There's one option to avoid that routing: we took the other side of the river. Also not very beautiful but better than the other side! We also took the bus out of Bilbao to the border of the city (direction Portugalette).
Paul
Good luck with your choice!
Stuart,
I don't remember all the places but you could get out of Santander by train(FEVE) and step out the train after 10-15 km to pick up the route to Santillana del Mar on day 1.
Day 2: to Commilas, etc.
Day 3 : to Unquera
Day 4: to Llanes
Day 5 : to Ribadessela and there you can get the...

I cannot comment on the beer-quality because I don't like it but we always got a wine in a little wine-glass : it had a special name we learned from a French pilgrim............. anyone?
Paul
I only do know that she has moved definitely to Barcelona to live and work there........ about a year ago(?). Maybe she does not have her danish provider anymore.........
I did found an old message on the Navarra-forum:

Hi specialists......(william,peter,ivar,javier and all the rest!),
Is there a walking track /route which Ignatius of Loyola has walked.....like a Camino?
I did never heard of it but someone told me that it is in the North of Spain and that it is a 14-days walk.
I walked the North route myself...
