We wear the vests just over our shirts. We walk always on the left of the road so we can see the cars coming towards us so they will see the front of the vest. It does not matter if the back of the vest is covered by the backpack.
I think we walked about the same than you two years ago...
We need short stages because I am old so we started with 15 km or less. There is no question that we had urban walking and road walking but we saw that as part of our Caminho. Very different indeed than the Camino Frances.
We used tricks like the first day we walked from the Cathedral, la Se...

We are starting our pilgrimage on Tomar on Oct 4. You will be a couple of weeks behind us.
Two years ago we walked in April and May and it was extremely hot. We went to Fatima on a Sunday and we found a mass outside in the esplanade with thousands of people (it was a few days...
Thank you mcopleland; 2 years ago we walked from Lisboa, and we found there is a bus from Tomar to Fatima in the morning and one bus from Fatima to Tomar in the afternoon. So we are planning to use that bus. It is a bus that locals use to go to work in Fatima.
My problem was Porto to Fatima...
Of course after I posted the question I finally found the answer; RENEX has lots of buses going to Fatima

I have spent some time trying to figure out how to get from Porto to Fartima.
I'll explain, we flying into Porto. We want to visit the shrine of Our Lady and then take a bus to Tomar and start our pligrimage in Tomar.
I just need advice on the best way to get from Porto to Fatima. I know there...
Starting in Fatima you have close to 500 Km, if you want to do that in 10 days it is 50Km a day. I would not recommend that even if you are a fast walker. If you start in Porto you have around 240 km, 24 km a day is doable. Think about it.
We are now having dinner with Mario and Teresa. I wish I could play guitar.
On the other hand I can certainly eat, Tetesa has made bacalao for us and Annie the nurse is here, for dinner too.
The wife and I are now in Lisbon. Today we are planning to meet Laurie - peregrina2000 - and start walking slowly tomorrow starting from Lisbon cathedral.

Buen Camino to everyone
Yes, I was going to write to you today asking if you had time. We leave Toronto Monday May 4, and arrive to Lisboa Tuesday morning. We plan to rest that day and Wednesday we would have time to explore Lisboa and to see you. Thursday we probably do some walking. We will be splurging and...
El Camino Portugues does not go by Fatima. You can follow the trail to Fatima from Santarem or from Tomar and then return to EL CAminode Santiago or you can take a bus from either city to Fatima and return to el Camino.
Yes Annie, only 4 for me. We emptied the backpacks (again) this morning, we are rechecking everything... we are trying to walk 15 km a day (mostly city walking) and right now looking for a nice central hotel in Lisboa to play tourist fro 2 days. Hope to see you very soon.
I will try to send you info. My wife and I arrive to Lisboa on May 5. We plan to take a couple of days to recover from jet lag and start walking on May 8.
We are slow walkers so I expect we will meet Sandy and Annie along the way.
