    Help! Can't find a bed in Santiago, May 17 and 18, 2024

It seems very popular with large groups now, not just pilgrims. More so at weekends, I suppose. The big, fully equipped kitchen and dining area, and its proximity.. close enough but far enough out of town. it all helps, no doubt. No better place in Santiago to watch the sunset over the old town...

    Snoring. AARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

Oh, this old debate again, already.. Lookit, you've said it yourself.. most of us will snore at some time, to some degree. Personally, I consciously try to sleep on my stomach or side and moderate alcohol consumption when sharing a room full of other people, out of respect. I also accept from...

    Snoring. AARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

From his post, I think he absolutely does.. and I think he's nailed it. If you want to sleep in luxury, don't choose pilgrim accommodation.

    Help! Can't find a bed in Santiago, May 17 and 18, 2024

Always worth calling into the Seminario in person. Their website (and others) don't show true availability and they will usually find you a bed. Don't phone, call in person. That has been my experience in helping others in SdC over past few years.

Manjarin: Tomás Martinez de Paz, the last templar

After a day of walking, all one really needs is a belly full of food and a bed.. everything else is a bonus. Clumping your way across Spain in stinking boots and ignoring personal hygiene is one thing, going a single day without home comforts and a hot shower, really isn't the end of the world..

LIVE from the Camino Camino home to home, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024

Forgive my curiousity, but... where is this wilderness you speak of, and why would anyone 'out there' be disturbed by you setting out into it?

    Re: Current Lunch Prices

Four or five days of lunches from Sarria to Santiago will be a tiny fraction of the cost of your airline flights across the Atlantic and back. The menu del dia is generally better quality, and a little more expensive than the typical menu del peregrino. Wine is included with both.

San Anton albergue (Castrojeriz) closes till further notice

I remember noticing some substantial structural layout changes were made between my stays in 2016 and 2023, I don't know or remember exactly... some demolition, the layout of part of the perimeter walls, the relocation of the entrance etc? I wonder if any of it contributed to the overall...

LIVE from the Camino Current conditions on the Frances

The volunteers at the busy pilgrim's office in SJPDP are primarily concerned with the welfare of the pilgrims. As has been pointed out in some recent threads, you can and should do your bit by checking the forecast all by yourself and making sure that if you are walking, you have appropriate...

Three rescues on the Route Napoleon yesterday

Indeed, that poor family got the rough end of it too..

Three rescues on the Route Napoleon yesterday

We have been stereotyped by a particular country for 800 years.. Get over it.

Snow in Navarra, currently, or at least a few hours ago...

A wise friend reminded me very recently: Don't believe everything you read in the papers'.. Would I listen, am I a fool? I hope not.. yesterday morning I had a good belly full of breakfast, checked the forecast, donned my magic cape and stuck to the quiet N134 rather than lose my way in a...

    News from the Camino

There is and they are, but you're on a hiding to nothing going against the conservative values of those in power, don't waste your energy. If your ego can handle it, hang back and don't take any of it personally or too seriously.

Three rescues on the Route Napoleon yesterday

Right now, I'm in the beautiful fortified town of Lescar, looking across at the snow caps of the Pyrenees towards that other pass.. the Col du Somport, where I'm headed. It looks pretty as a picture.. and menacing in equal measure. Not somewhere I'd want to be stuck.

    News from the Camino

I'm happy to hear Tomas is back greeting pilgrims up at Manjarín. Many (myself included) assumed he was no longer active up there.

    Between Pamplona and Najera

It's one of the special places for sure.. quirky, rustic and full of atmosphere and character. Helena is a wonderful caring host and cook. But there is really nothing else in Azqueta, you might struggle to amuse yourself for two whole days there. Mind you, you could always amble back down to...

Starting on the Camino Frances, not sure which route to take into Santiago (san salvador / primitivo versus invierno)

Either would be a good choice, and similar in terms of difficulty and scenery, though the Salvador/Primitivo option will take a few days, maybe a week longer. You will also hit the crowded Frances for the last few days. The invierno, will be quieter overall and offers a gentler approach to...
