    Name on all my stuff?

This reminds me of my experience last year on the CF. Just a few days before leaving home, I purchased two pairs of socks with a Camino theme in a shop in Zurich, Switzerland. The year before, I had lost socks in obvious mix-ups, so I wanted to make sure that these new socks were unique enough...

Tradition…. When to start wearing your scallop shell?

So they are at the Albergues Jesus y Maria and Casa Paderbornin Pamplona and in many other alternative starting points.

Is it rude to ask people why they walk

When asked, I just say "because it is there", period

    Astorga

Paella, like Pizza, is mostly of the deep-frozen and factory-made variety along the Camino; the "real thing" is found in southern Spain along the Mediterranean. The main importance of course is that you were hungry enough to like it in spite. 🤮

Anyone know how to get into a doctors office for a visit?

In most small places along the Camino, you'll find a "Centro de Salud", Navarette has one, any pharmacy can give you directions. There you generally just walk in during practicing hours. Or google "médicos de familia en ...[location] and call for an appointment.

    Astorga

Funny; the OP asked primarily for great food recommendations but instead of helpful suggestions only received references to the chocolate factory 🙄. (As a Swiss, I refrain from giving my (biased) opinion on the chocolate quality in Astorga) In fact, Astorga has some very good restaurants...

    First Camino

Welcome! You have a very reasonable attitude and thus will have a very enjoyable Camino. Use gronze.com and booking.com as guides to accommodations, if you're interested, I can PM you my excel sheet with tested and proven ones. Meanwhile, you may start learning to write Saint Jean Pied de Port...

    Sleepwalking on the Camino

As if one could actually get 8 to 9 hours of sleep in an Albergue dormitory! With the noisy latecomers and the early risers...not dogmatic but highly unlikely! 😵‍💫

Best towns to take two nights on CFrances

I never plan or take rest days. Instead, I take the bus near big cities like Burgos or Leon, so I have more time to explore them and to occasionally take a nap. In case of injury - so far I've been lucky - I would also take a bus or cab. Spending two days in one place would interrupt my Camino...

    Sleepwalking on the Camino

Well frankly: You have a very particular a personal indisposition that could potentially be bothersome in a crowded dormitory, you are a couple, you can afford to fly in from overseas. Why bother to sleep in dormitories, then? Book rooms through booking.com with the aid of gronze.com. As along...

Can I make this connection? Seeking advice about Barcelona airport and train connections!

"There are probably lockers at the train station where you could leave your backpacks." There is a left-lugagge in Sants station, in the basement next to the parking

Can I make this connection? Seeking advice about Barcelona airport and train connections!

Short: Yes, it's possible, I've done it in much less time (w/o jetlag and being very familiar with the perimeter, metro, Sants station) Your plan is the worst possible way to start a pilgrimage. Long: (and especially if I came from overseas as a first-time visitor) Why would you want to do...

Accommodations in El Acebo de San Miguel

Before 2021, I would simply have a drink and stroll through El Acebo. However, in 2021, I needed to make an extra stop before Ponferrada in order to meet someone there the next day, so I stayed at the Albergue Casa Peregrino. I was incredibly satisfied with my stay, so I returned there again in...

Hoka Shoe Owners: Speedgoat 5 or the Bondi 8?

You are absolutely correct, it's totally individual; for me is just the other way around and I got burning hot feet-soles with the original insoles.

Hoka Shoe Owners: Speedgoat 5 or the Bondi 8?

I buy my Speedgoats always 1 size larger when doing the purchase online. But for your first purchase, I highly recommend a physical shop, try them on at the end of the day, preferably after a long walk, and with the same socks. Ask to try the shoes with a pair of SuperFeet insoles replacing...

To check or not check your backpack?

On my last four CF's , I carried my trusted Mountain Hardware 36lt backpack measuring 50 cm (20''), weighing about 6 kg fully packed (incl. foldable Black Diamond Carbon Z poles and a small daypack) In my experience, Airlines (yes, even budget ones like Spains Vuelling) generally are more...

Is pre-booking accommodation the new normal?

You are right, but the variant of regularly requesting to reconfirm by phone 2 hours ahead of arrival, and the frequent question of my whereabouts at the time of that call was new to me.

Is pre-booking accommodation the new normal?

I enjoy reading @David Tallan's posts, but it seems like he hasn't walked the Camino in a while and may not be aware of current (post-covid) matters. During my last two Caminos in 2021 and 2022, it was common for me to be asked to reconfirm my reservation by phone two hours before arrival. When...
