    Pilgrimage or escape?

NOTE FROM THE MODS: I have merged this thread with another one linking to the same article. I am leaving both links in the thread, because it seems that some people have trouble seeing one or the other depending on where they are logging in from, so I am hoping that at least one link will work...

    Avoiding the breakfast trap?

I usually buy a large yogurt drink the night before. (It keeps refrigerated or not) Drink it on my way to the first open bar, get a great cafe con leche standing at the bar, then walk till about 10 when Spanish breakfast begins. Most bars have a tortilla prepared by then. (Sometimes you have to...

This summer I walked the VDLP and Sanabries from Salamanca. Along the way, I met Fluer, who had been walking from Seville. She had come back from the year before because she had been part of a Dutch TV show and wanted to walk again. I was fortunate to be guided by Fleur to some of the best...

    Extra pair of boots?

Oh! The OP didn't bring that up. Here are the two points that boots might be needed, but can easily be circumvented by staying on the little used paved roads adjacent. They have better views too! Regio de Ambros to Molinaseca Las Herrerias to La Faba

    Extra pair of boots?

I don't use boots. The "trails" are generally dirt roads. I can think of two short stretches in that length that boots might be needed. Trail or multi purpose shoes work well! Have a blast!

    Ten years ago today.

Ten years ago today, I began walking 500 miles on what was to be a month long journey across Spain on the Camino de Santiago. In truth that journey has never stopped. My life and my family's life has changed because of it. The enduring friendships and love I encountered and all the ripple...

"The Way" the movie 'tragic' seeks HELP!

The scene where he gets drunk and arrested is in the wine town Haro. Not on the camino. But I think the jail release scene is in Logrono. The scene where they sleep in a clostier with candles was created in the monastery of Irache.. .discussed in a earlier thread...it might become a real...

I've swam in the river at Samos, beside the Mosarabic church and at Mansilla DE Las Mulas by the lovely campground. Both very cold in July.

Options for not walking through industrial areas

There is a wonderful river camino route into Burgos. It's on a bike path which becomes the sidewalk in the old town right to the Arco de Santa Maria and it also leads you out of town. Follow the camino to Castaneres to pick it up. Stay cool and enjoy the scenery!

    Camino angels - origin?

Of course. But the revitalization of the camino and its use by a world wide population, including those familiar with the American trails, only dates to the 1980's or so.

    Camino angels - origin?

"Camino Angel" may come from the very long tradition, here in the states, of being a "Trail Angel" on one of the three long distances trails here; the Appalachian Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail and the Continental Divide Trail. In this tradition a "trail angel" is someone who provides...
