When we did our caminos we found that everyone, regardless of age or gender, made great friends along the way. We would be at least the ages of your parents and observed that young people easily found groups of walking companions. Don’t worry in the least and, as long as you use normal...
Since I have my phone forwarded and only use wifi, it is really used as a camera when walking. When at a rest stop or not wanting to interact, I have to use the age-old behaviour of a slight scowl or sitting at a slight angle so I can enjoy a view, peace, and quiet without having someone feel...
Now that’s I think about it, on the Le Puy route, it was hunting season and there were, occasionally, signs up noting not to go in certain areas. There were a couple of times when the shooting was very near or we saw deer running past us, away from hunters.
That was the highest level of concern...
It doesn’t matter if some are booked......only if *all* are booked.
Also, be aware that the booking companies take a good percentage of the booking as their fee so the accommodation provider will likely only release those rooms to booking.com as they get closer to the dates, instead hoping to...
We did the Frances and Le Puy caminos and didn’t share a room once. We had shared bathrooms perhaps four times total.
On our first Camino, we wanted to confirm our distances before booking but once we knew that a 27km average was fine, we just emailed ahead or used booking.com. Google Translate...
Since I belch, fart, snore, and get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, but am intolerant of putting up with other strangers who do so, our perfect solution was to stay in private accommodations.
Plus, the added benefit was it freed up an albergue spot for others!
I wouldn't...
No, the camino Frances was definite proof that there was not better if you either looked for it or paid more!
Now, the Le Puy.....that was a dream compared to Spain, food-wise. Cheap or expensive, the French are always proud of their food and they would simply not serve a poor meal.
I just heard from my son, who was in Logrono yesterday also, and he said it is a real race for beds. He is in Najera today and said he got the last bed.
If you see a tall young Canadian, that's him!
One more comment from some of our memories on the Camino........it appeared that the problems with couples arose from one of the couple clearly being more enthusiastic about the experience and/or physically able to do it. The one that was less enthusiastic or able did not have the same positive...
We walked both the Frances and Le Puy together, as a couple, and it was fine. On our first day to roncesvalles, a group of ladies starting together told us what a mistake it was for a couple to walk together.
Within a week, their group was disintegrating and we plodded onwards, amused at their...
I got food poisoning in Leon, and it hit me the following day. About 15km into the day it became really bad and the projectile vomiting started.
I had to take a taxi a few km later for the last 4km but didn't feel much shame. Let's just say that the old saying "through the eye of a needle at 20...
We carried our packs the whole way because we wanted the challenge. And it gave a faux sense of superiority to those who didn't......but only because we were secretly jealous of their ability to skip down the trails unencumbered by packs....especially when our backs were sore. :)
We walked the...
...all the way from your doorstep? Sounds touristy to me. Please reconsider.
Do you use modern facilities like running water, sanitation, etc? Now *that* is touristy too. It detracts from a real pilgramage. Please reconsider, as then it would enhance your "alone" time.....guaranteed.
The other...
We met lots of people who I assume were younger and lots of people who I assume were older on our Camino last September and it was a perfect mix. We made friends from all over the world and from totally different walks of life. It was a blast and wouldn't want it any other way. We are middle...
...we generalize when encountering some sort of sensitivity.......you have done that in your statements when, in fact, it is abundantly clear that *everybody* isn't so mad.
If you get a vibe of someone not liking something that you do, why let it bother you? If you don't like *everyones*...
How about a restaurant in each town that is open earlier.
Just kidding, but that was the tough part sometimes after a loooong day of walking and having to wait until 8 or 8:30 to enter the restaurant. Sometimes the small cultural changes are the most difficult!
Except it would protect far less of ones body compared to falling straight down and result in severely limited vision when walking into the rain. I prefer a poncho there and an umbrella when I am in the endless rain in Vancouver.
