Pop into a church, light a candle, say a prayer of gratitude for yourself andall yor fellow pilgrims and ask anyone working there, otherwise same procedure sans candle in the bar of your choice!
I just walked it this past July/August with a friend and we averaged 40€ each a day with upgrades to a private room w/ or w/o bath and a real budget stretcher of 73€ in Barcelos didnt keep track of food and drink but my best guess would be 20-25 a day eating and drinking VERY well .YMMV
I was there just last month at which point it was definitely a municipal. Given a choice I'd bunk elsewhere at this time of year as there was NO ventilation in the bunk area...
...the wise pilgrim to make sure we were on trail from time to time we also used it from time to time to look for accommodation. Perhaps it was on a setting or something we did wrong but it never seemed to show Albergues just hostels or better represented by booking.***. Has anyone else noticed...
We hit armenteria on the 13th of August which was a Sunday there was a pilgrim's mass that evening whether that only occurs on the weekend or not I am unsure
The Schwab card I carry is a debit card linked to an investment account, I keep a few hundred on the investment side and dont give it much thought. The debit card portion of the deal gets me 0 atm fees worldwide I'm told but I know I've never been charged in US or Spain and when I pull $ out I...
Likely it's mostly due to topography, the first 3-5 days seemed the most challenging, although the stage going over hospitals or pola was also something to contend with. But if you had no issues with the Inglés you ought to be ok just train for hills as much as you can pre Camino!
Dave Whitsen co author of " The Northern Caminos" guidebook has a podcast on Sound cloud in episode 25 ( I just heard it last night) he describes an evening spent walking with a group of students he was guiding at the time...it sounded like an overall positive experience, who knows how long it...
I'd second that Dr Bonners makes a dry version of their Castille Soap which I Loved for Hair body and laundry. Keeping it in a mesh bag allowed it to dry overnight hanging from the bunk and made it last longer. I still only made it from Irun to Oviedo before I had to replace it with a soap I...
We saw several cyclists while doing our Norte the summer of 17, one of which struggled with staying on the same path as the Pilgrims on foot; especially the sections which feature long stretches on the beach or the hills leading one to the beach. They persevered and made it though. The ferrymen...
You probably already know this but FWIW you can dedicate your compestella to someone else. This might add an additional significance for your family and make the wait even more worthwhile!
I second the Inglés, my wife has health issues and cannot do long stages so we did more or less half stages based on a blackboard I'd seen in Cafe Maragotto In Neda ( see the blog " theCaminoProvides"). The walk was pleasant if not spectacular and reasonably varied. Someone in our group was...
After walking the Norte/Primativo my son an I decided to give Napoleon's pass from SJPP to Roncesvalles a shot just to get a taste of the Francés and one of it's most notorious climbs. I'm getting older and figured that when ever I got around to doing the Francés myself I could just start in...
For another pilgrims take on a Camino with a fair bit of history, both ancient and more modern, read or listen to Tony Kevin's "Walking the Camino, a modern pilgrimage" . It is his account of walking the VdLP with a great deal of background material on Spain and the Camino from a retired...
