The case for preserving the descent into Zubiri.

How very interesting, thank you. Is the path down to Molinaseca created in the same way?

    Via Ellenica - Summary 🇮🇹

That sounds and looks amazing.....now to find an Italian Speaker who likes walking 🤔 Thank you.

Gite de la Porte Saint Jacques

It is a lovely place to stay in my opinion. There is a bunk room and on the top floor a room with well spaced out single beds. Clean and airy in a nice location a little higher up from the Pilgrim Office. I had the communal supper as an optional extra and it included fresh vegetables grown by...

starting at SJJP 2nd or 3rd week of August

I started on Aug 23rd last year. The precise date was dictated by the availability of a bed in Albergue Border. The first day up the mountain it was very hot and very humid so I was very pleased to have a "half-way" stop. The next day it was very windy, which was a great improvement on the...

    Correos rucksack transport question

I stayed at a couple of places that Correos did not list. I phoned them up and they asked that I get confirmation from the accommodation that they accepted bag deliveries. In one place they said it was shut when they arrived and they delivered to a different place but told me where my pack was...

    Stage 28

If it is Tricastela to Sarria I would say both route choices are beautiful and fairly quiet. If you have time I would take the Samos route and stay there for the night. You can go to the Monastery for a tour which is interesting and later attend evensong there. When I was there (end of Sept '24)...

    Atypical/memorable albergues on Camino Francés?

Good advice above. I will also say the Refugio Gaucelmo in Rabanal is a special stop. Another very welcoming donativo which provides afternoon tea for the group. It's worth attending Vespers in the nearby Inglesia de Santa Maria de la Asuncion; Gregorian chant followed by pilgrim blessing...

What do you wish you had worried less about?

Before I'd ever walked a Camino I worried most about sleeping in albergues and finding meals. So first time around I used a company that booked me hotels and evening meals, on the Camino Portuguese. I learnt a lot that trip and determined to have a go myself, carrying my pack and sleeping in at...

    Two backpacks?

I used 2 packs last year. My regular Osprey Eja 38 went with the transport service. Daily I used a Deuter Women's Speed Lite 23l pack. I chose this because it has a lightweight hip-belt so all the weight was not just on my shoulders. I could also access my water bottles from the side pockets...

    Help using Wise Pilgrim app

You should find comments beneath the stage if you scroll up. Also if you click on any accommodation name you will find any comments that have been left. Not every place has been commented on.

    Albergue pillows

Spanish pillows are long and thin. As wide as the mattress but much thinner than UK pillows. You might be able to get the right size pillow case using Amazon. Most albergues have pillows that have a thin plastic cover that's sealed, as are their mattresses. It does stop bed bug infestation in...

    Shower/bathroom etiquette in the albergues?

I always change within the shower cubicle. It can be snug! ALWAYS take your valuables with you. I use ultralight dry bags for my clothes, and have a small Heroclip (a type of S hook) in case there is no hook. You'll be surprised at how quickly it all feels normal 😊

New Forum Topic... Portable Clothes Wringer?

To be honest rolling the clothes in the travel towel and twisting them also works. With no need to wash the towel...just dry it! I bought nappy (diaper) pins which lock shut. Ideal for backpack drying should anything not be fully dry in the morning. Happy handwashing Caroline

Those who have walked at least one Camino - What are your favorite insoles and why?

I wear Altra Lone Peak trail runners and use their insoles for most of my walk. After about 600km I switch to Sorbothane Cush N Step Cushion Protect Insoles. I do this because the mid-sole wears and these insoles bring back the cushioning. A great treat for my feet for the last few hundred km...

New Forum Topic... Portable Clothes Wringer?

I am intrigued by the roll and stomp method. I'm not sure I want to put my towel on the floor though. I roll my clothes in my towel and twist it to squeeze out water, holding each end. Nothing seems to stretch like it would without the towel.

New Forum Topic... Portable Clothes Wringer?

Hmmm just wondering if a lightweight salad spinner might work ;)
