The Camino inspired me to do a solo walk in December 2014 from Manchester to Derby in authentic Jacobite period clothing following closely the route the army of Bonnie Prince Charlie took in 1745 from the Highlands of...
I agree with everyone that it is nice to see the fond memories that this thread generated.
I was in La Coruña last January and my finacé and I were trying to find the bus to the Roman lighthouse (tour de Hercules).
A kind woman appeared out of nowhere and gave us directions to the bus stop...
I don't post that much on this forum but like to read what people have to say.
Just when I am getting fed up with equipment and logistic questions, and yes they are all very valid and important as people are learning about and wanting to know the answer to so many practical questions, an...
Yup Sil
Metaphorically it did, because if you look carefully it is the world!
And that is what it felt like I was carrying when I first set out!
I did not look like a drifter though, perish the thought! :D
Actually, it felt like the freedom of speech and ideas were being curtailed in this case.
It is something that has not been talked about before and sometimes the same old equipment questions and backpack questions go on and on and if people simply did a search they would see their very question...
Hi
I have written a blog of our travels.
http://the79thcameronhighlanders.co.uk/ ... report.htm
I was looking at someone's comment on staying at Monastery's on the Camino del Norte and it mentionned the bathrooms being dirty at Sobrado.
I really did not find them that bad, I've seen a lot...
There has been quite an interesting thread on this subject below already below

There is a blog on http://www.shornclifferedoubt.com/ under news from rifleman Law
We followed the Camino Francès from Astorga to Sarria taking in the picturesque SanXil route from Triacastela. Then headed to Lugo (awful outskirts to trudge through) and stayed at Lugo (great city) 2 nights in...
all going well.
Some people are absolutely delighted to see us and want pictures of us in our uniforms with their friends.
The most touching episode was at Rabanal. Our lunch and beer was paid for us and many took photos of us, really enjoying the touch of colour we have brought.
It is wierd...
great post Reb, well written. It felt like I could have been there.
Whether one thinks re-enacting is flakey or useful in preserving the rich heritage of history, it is a great leisure activity.
Not only is a way of reliving history where war was fought with obsolete old fashioned methods in...
2 January ASTORGA
I spent the weekend doing some preparation walking. Saturday I walked 5 miles climb to a Norman Church at Lympne in Kent and Sunday I walked 12 miles on the seafront from Hythe to Folkestone harbour and back.
I will be setting off from Astorga on January 2nd 2009 to La...
I've had some bad news. The complete march re-encating the retreat 200 years ago has been cancelled due to various factors, people pulling out etc, lack of support etc. I got this news 3 hours after booking my flights with 'click air' to La Coruna, which I now seem unable to cancel including...
Bicentennial Corunna 200
Hello plans are going well for the re-enacation
At the end of this year there is a planned event to commemorate the 200th anniversary (Bicentenary) of the retreat to Corunna (Spain) this winter.
Here is a brief outline of the historic events.
Napoleon was coming after...
Hello
There is a planned event to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Corunna this winter.
A group of re-enactors are going on a 300 mile march following in the footsteps of Sir John Moore and will be joined by serving officer and men of the Army’s newest regiment The Rifles. The re-enactors...
Hola
I was wondering what has happened to Arn? He seemed to post so frequently and have so much enthusiasm and I wondered why he has stopped posting.
I guess he is on his Camino, setting out mid April, but most people can post from an internet café?
It seemed like he was a kind of a...
William, thanks for what you said.
I have been following this thread which has been most interesting and entertaining. It has captured my attention and just when I feel the forum has run out of things to say, a fascinating thread grows which reflects the diverse community that we pilgrims are...
Holà
Sorry if it is slightly off topic but tomorrow afternoon Tues 11th Dec) on Radio 4, 14h15 there is a 45 minute radio play called 'To be a Pilgrim'. (93.1 or 94.4 FM)
I've heard it before and it is quite funny but reinforces the nature of just setting off and walking. The message at the...

Hello
What a wonderful story. I think it is really important to share stories and experiences like that, moments where the timing is more important than the event itself, like the link above I posted.
My father also died...
