Best way to walk near unfenced cows/cattle

The most sensible thing to do on the Camino or anywhere one may encounter livestock, dogs or even wildlife and the like is to simply give them as wide a berth when possible when walking past them. That's it....

    Mid March Planning Head Aches

You're talking about March 2025? You have almost a year to decide what to bring. I would think that's more than enough time to research internet weather sites for past years weather for the particular Camino you want to walk. You can find out the average precipitation, temperature highs and...

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

Permits to walk the Camino? Law enforcement task forces specific for the task assigned. Violators detained, forcibly removed from the path and fined? That's some of the dumbest 💩 I've heard on here.

    Compostela: Electric Bikes Excluded?

I will be on the Frances again this summer. I hope not to share the path with any motorized bicycle, be it electric or internal combustion.

    Injuries, Fatalities Since May

It has its dodgy sections (the Frances) but overall it is a safe trail with infrastructure so close. Not austere at all. Pre existing medical conditions aside I figure one has to work really hard to get killed on it.

    Snake identification

Several years ago, while walking the Frances I found a dead snake on the path. It was an area with grain fields and no doubt preyed on the various rodents that inhabit the area to eat the grain. It was about one meter long, and obviously a non-venomous species. It had sustained minimal damage in...

Albergue San Juan de Ortega -- a question

I've stayed there three times over the past twelve years. Is it basic? Yup. Did I mind? Nope. It served its purpose for me. A bunk, a bathroom with showers and a meal. I have very simple tastes and don't walk the Camino for posh accommodations.

Shirley Maclaine - The Camino - Swimming place

Depends on if they're for mindless entertainment or actual information. For information, get a guidebook. For entertainment read one of the countless overdramatic and embellished accounts of walking the Camino.

Computer/ laptop for rent on Camino

Never saw any laptops for rent on the Camino and the last time I saw an internet cafe on the Camino was ten years ago, I think.

    Chinese shops???

I left my smartphone charging cord at an albergue and unfortunately didn't have a spare, or a plug converter which was on the charging cord I left. I went to one of the Chinese shops, or Bazaar Chino as this one was called and purchased two charging cords there. Not expensive and worked great...

Shirley Maclaine - The Camino - Swimming place

One mustn't forget that in all likelihood she's just plain embellishing her Camino experience. Lying. Making things up. That's what writer's do. Makes it impossible to find a swimming hole that never existed in the first place. I highly doubt she actually walked the majority of the Camino. I...

    Niggling hates (dislikes) on Camino

...That's bad for the albergue and bad for fellow pilgrims who may have been turned away. 8. Bicycles or any motorized vehicles including silly a** drones on the walking path. I'm just going to leave it there. 9. Pilgrims who play their music externally on a speaker while walking, sometimes...

    What makes a pilgrim?

While I totally get the need for some type of rules, conditions etc for staying in albergues I personally think there's times it is quite OK to bend the rules, as in the case of the peregrinas in question. It was quite obvious they were pilgrims and I suppose actually being there and seeing them...

    Training with Weighted Vests

Sure, why not? Any type of walking workout is great for pre Camino training and I can definitely see how a weighted vest would simulate wearing a backpack. Physical training before walking 800 kms is a must. That's total physical training to include nutrition and core/upper body. It seems to...

    Storage in Albergues?

I almost never use my cellphone when I walk the Camino so probably 75% of the time it's turned off. When it does need charging I just do it whenever. I certainly wouldn't leave it or anything of value like money, wallet, documents etc unattended ever while on the Camino

    How long is the Meseta?

The meseta for all practical purposes is the stretch between Burgos and Leon, but more well known as the stretch between Carrion de los Condes and Leon. It's farmland, plain and simple. Not desert nor a barren wasteland. Definitely doesn't challenge one's mind or soul due to its flatness and...

    OK guys, what underwear?

I've had best luck with the knee to almost knee length compression type underwear. Gusseted, support pouch and 100% synthetic. The term compression is a bit misleading because they're not that tight. I've worn different brands like under armour and jockey.

    stopping in Uterga

I stopped there once and stayed at the albergue on the left hand side as you're heading to Puente de la Reina. It was nice and very clean. Good food.

    Bears

I can only recount in my experiences as a first responder I recall two instances of people killed quite dead by lightning strikes and zero people dead or even injured by wild boars/pigs and this was an area with a high population of such.

    Bears

Having lived in areas known for wild boars/feral hogs etc almost my entire life and having personally sent more than a few from forest to freezer my advice to pilgrims and future pilgrims is no worries on the path. They truly are more afraid of you then you are of them and the ones responsible...
