...brimmed hat
If it's cold it ends up like:
pants
rain pants
short-sleeve t-shirt
hiking shirt
fleece
rain jacket
warm hat
gloves
If it got *really* cold, I'd just throw on another t-shirt. I've not had to yet on the Camino.
For sleeping bag, you'll be indoors, so bring a summer bag. You'll...
Nothing is perfect for everyone, that's for sure! Some (most?) gore-tex type jackets have "pit zips" and ways to loosen the cuffs, and those can help with ventilation and sweat build-up. They can be awkward to use, though, and may let water creep in. At that point, you've kind-of turned the rain...
...off rain, the rain gear dance can be hilarious.
Likewise for the rain pants. Depending on footwear, you might have to sit down and take those off too if the zips at the bottom of the pants aren't wide enough, or your shoes are so muddy you *really* don't want that on the inside of your rain...
Yes, don't forget the convenience of wearing your rain gear on those days you've got a pile of laundry and really want to splurge and wash the whole lot all at once in a machine! We have done this more than once and it has been super nice, even if it feels a little weird. :)
Even though I walk...
I just got back from 2 weeks in Spain on the Camino del Norte with a pair of Topo Ultraventure 3s. In five prior 2 week trips, I've tried Merrel Moabs initially and the last two with Hoka Challengers (wide with Superfeet Green insoles). These Topos were the best I've tried.
I got one small...
After years of hiking and running, I am a believer in non-gortex shoes. No matter what, your feet are going to get wet if the rain or puddles gets serious. You'll also get wet once you get warmed up and start sweating. But you'll dry out much faster, especially in something like a trail runner...
With a little bit of work, you can create your own custom maps in Google My Maps: https://www.google.com/mymaps
To combine the KML files together so you can import them as one layer, you might find KML Merger useful as well: https://kmlmerger.com/
I've already spent far too much time having...
Yes, in my experience, the Topo and Altra shoes are true to (what I expect) size. For hiking and running both, I wear my shoes about a size large for all the swelling that can occur after a bunch of miles in a day. I've gotten used to that less than snug feeling, though.
If you really like the wide toe box (I do), you may want to consider Topo Athletic. I got a pair and they have a great "foot shape" toe box like the Altras, come in an Achilles friendly drop, and have what appears to be a very durable Vibram sole on some models. I got the Mtn Racer 2, which...
I've made the journey from boots to trail runners myself. For decades hiking and for the first 3 times I've walked I walked the Camino I used boots, but the last 2 times have been with trail runners. I run and hike a lot on rocky Colorado trails and prefer a trail runner over a road shoe for...
In my experience it is far better to have wet feet that dry out quickly than to walk in a pair of sauna shoes which are wet anyway from sweat. Hot sweaty feet are more prone to blisters, I think. I've walked Caminos in everything from snow, to pouring rain, to hot sun, and I have never regretted...
Wow, that looks like poor quality control! That's disappointing to see. In my experience with a dozen or so pairs of size 11.5 Wide Hokas including two Speed Goats I've never seen that. I use Hokas (Challenger) on Camino and (Challenger / Speed Goat) trail running here in CO. You should be able...
I am a huge Hoka fan, and use them mostly for running but some hiking too. Our trails and terrain in Colorado are much like the Camino. This last March, I had a brand new set of both the Speedgoats and Challengers to choose from. After a bit of trying them each out, I chose the Challengers...
I've got the LTM6, and have had no problems cramming it as flat as I can against the walls of my backpack and encircling the clothes inside. It's a great hat!
What a coincidence! I have used both of these shoes in the past for both walking and running. I like the wide width to make room for my sorry toes, but I put in a regular width SuperFeet green insole to tighten up the slop in the heel area for my otherwise fairly normal feet.
I ordered both...
As other's have mentioned the double-layer Wrightsocks are great. Especially the ones with the Camino logo on them:

I used to love Altras until the zero drop caused achilles tendonitis. I have tried all sorts of options but have settled on Hoka Challenger ATR 6 in wide. I use these both for running and hiking now. I used to use a custom made orthotic, but when I wore them out, I found that SuperFeet Green...
