Last minute advice for solo traveler

Spain (and Europe) uses Whatsapp phone/messaging system. From what I heard phone numbers that start with "6" is a Whatsapp number. If you see a taxi phone number on walls, sign posts, bars, albergues, etc. take note of it just in case. For other safety purposes, particularly emergencies...

Last minute advice for solo traveler

Doing the Camino Frances solo is an amazing experience. Experience that you will treasure and cherish the rest of your life. Note however, first and foremost, Santiago de Compostela and Saint James, are not moving or going anywhere. They will be there for your 2nd, 3rd, nth camino. Enjoy your...

    Alternative to Pamplona for overnight

On my past two Caminos I made sure to stop in Pamplona for its historical significance and, to pay homage to the American Pulitzer winner and Nobel Laureate Ernest Hemingway. He is enshrined at Cafe Irun at the edge of Plaza Mayor and his images are all-over Pamplona; Bull Ring, souvenir stores...

What if fatigue is too much?

As you go along your Camino, you will see taxi phone numbers in various bars, albergues, traffic signs, etc. Note the numbers whether you need them or not; "just in case." A lot of them will also indicate numbers and services in the next stages. I have almost two dozens phone numbers from...

Is someone starting Camino Frances on May 31st and in need of a place to stay in St Jean Pied de Porte on May 30? I just received an email from Joseph at Beilari Aterpea asking me to confirm a reservation by 3pm on May 30. Otherwise, he will give the reservation to someone in need of a place...

Arriving in Villafranca del Bierzo today

Yes! Past pilgrims and camino guides regard it as the most photographed house along the camino.

Arriving in Villafranca del Bierzo today

The white house sits atop a hill, framed by two mature trees, about half a kilometer away on the left side of the camino, past most of the vineyards, sort of downhill before start getting closer to the village/s and town. I heard that the house is the most photographed house along the camino. I...

LIVE from the Camino Anyone near Castrojeriz now

True. Albergue Orion should not be called Korean Albergue simply because it is popular due to its "bibimbap" dinner. However, their "bibimbap" dinner is authentically prepared by the Korean lady (Changsui), Dani's partner in the albergue.

Sorry for what have happened Robin. Very sad and unfortunate I know. Similar sad and ugly event happened to me almost two years at Torres del Rio in Hostal Rural La Pata de Oca. My son and I placed our rucksacks early morning of our departure at the designated place for transport inside the...

Private albergues/Guesthouse In Ventas De Narón or Salceda

I immensely enjoyed Tia Teresa's laundry service and half pound entrecot. I wanted the chuleton but Tia Teresa's husband (I think), told me it was too much (size/quantity) for one person. Morning of my departure, he drew my tired and hairy face on my morning coffee. He's so cool. Buen Camino.

Where to stay in SJPDP- September 2024

Yes you can reserve and stay for two nights. However, when we stayed there September 2022, "angels" woke us up, I think 530am or 6am, to get ready to leave and get out of the place even though we had reservations for two days/two nights. We had to stay out until they are ready for pilgrims again.

Excited for my upcoming bed reservation in Borda!

I prefer Borda over Orisson. Laurent, Borda's host does his best to make his guests comfortable and ready for a safe and enjoyable walk to Roncesvalles. He prepares delicious communal dinner and breakfast himself followed by safety orientation. Stayed there twice (2022, 2023), plan to stay there...
