I remember a crêperie on the main drag that was lovely. I want with an American pilgrim lady who'd never had French pancakes before and thought them an exotic treat.
Hi, I walked to the col from Arles last year, May to June, later than you are intending. No snow, it was sometimes cold in the evenings especially higher altitude sections, and there was rain. A lot was in shade so I only had a couple of days I'd call hot. Can't compare with Autumn, no experience.
Is there any further news on a 2024 update to Dave Whitson's and Laura Perazzoli's guide to the Camino del Norte and Primitivo?
@Dave I like your guide but the one on sale is the 2019 edition, now 5 years old.
Also would it be any lighter than 350g in a new edition?
this will be an interesting trip! in 2023, I always carried water, sometimes 2.5 litres to get me to the next water source. It was not hot (not always even warm) in May, and I never ran out. From memory, there are streams, as it is quite a wet region, but I could not say if you would find a...
I recommend mapy.cz which is a map app with all the GR and camino routes, in France at least. Download the app and as an example, search for Léguevin (small town west of Toulouse). Zoom in and you will see which of the dark red lines is the Voie d'Arles.
I used free Duolingo for Portuguese for 2 years, but when I met a Portuguese lady on camino, I could not understand a single word. I'm using it now for Spanish, but more because it's fun and gamefied (I have a 149-day streak! I'm in Amethyst League!) and recalls a couple of words per day...
I asked this question in 2018 before walking the Camino Frances (in 2022). It attracted some ribald comment and I had to block one person :). https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/what-to-wear-in-bed.55909/
It works for me to wear tomorrow's clothes in bed and just undo the bra at...
It gets a bit difficult round there. There used to be a gite at Lamothe just north of L'Isle-Arné but when I was walking in June last year it had closed. You can stay at Le Grange (e acute) just before Giscaro, other people really liked it. I'm afraid my solution was to stay at L'Isle-Jourdain...
You'll be fine in the Haut Languedoc then! It was cold even in May, as it's all quite high. I decided to share a taxi with another pilgrim from La-Salvetat-sur-Agout to Murat-sur Vebre because the forecast was bad, and I thought I would spend all day in wet fog and not be able to see anything...
For me 27 days of actual walking, although I own up to skipping entry into and exit from Montpellier (bus / tram), a few km coming out of Toulouse (train to Brax) and train from Gimont to Auch. In addition, I had a tourist day in Arles, half a day in Montpellier and almost a full day touristing...
Hello, I did Arles to Somport May to June 2023. Very rural and remote much of the time. Food had to be planned and gîte location often dictated distance and sometime route! Hardest part was over the Haute Languedoc. Hottest part was around Gimont. A real sense of passing through different...
Hi, I walked from Arles to Somport in May-June 2023, apart from a train hop from Gimont to Auch.
Using earlier post and adding my comments.
1 Léguevin - Maison Saint-Jacques - I also stayed here having trained it to Brax from Toulouse to skip the city outskirts. I was also alone! Nice house run...
Happy to help but before I dig out my notes and memories, what kind of recommendations? I mostly stayed in municipal or religious organisations' pilgrim gites with the occasional private accommodation.
In May and June this year I carried my bag but three French ladies had a bag transported in the Haut Languedoc section. I understand they arranged it on a daily basis with local taxis and the cost was quoted to me one day as 40 euros for one bag. In light of this they shared one transported bag.
Thank you @Trishb for this thread and also your updates. This summer has been quite wet with frequent cloud cover, ideal growing conditions for weeds, and it's not surprising some footpaths and bridleways haven't been maintained as closely as would be ideal. The bodies responsible for this are...
1: before. 2: a wide range of experiences, english speaking. 3: 4 years 4: once per week, sometimes twice 5: sometimes there's a new slant on a theme, and sometimes I can offer help
Hello Lara, I also recommend Gronze. I used it together with Miam Miam Dodo on this route in May-June. If you would like a very peaceful first night about 22 km from Castres, I recommend the women's abbey at Dourgne called Abbaye Sainte Scholastique. Gronze has their telephone number. It's...
The road works will be there for a while - they are improving safety for walkers and cyclists.
I took the bus from Bedous to Urdos, and walked to the Col from there. Bedous to the Col is a very long walk for one day in any case.
However, a couple of pilgrims walked Bedous to the Col on the road...
