BTW, on another thread I just mentioned that @sillydoll, forum member #8, is the member still active on the forum who has been around the longest (except for member #1, @ivar himself). Twenty year anniversary coming up later this year.
Add a paper version between the case and the phone also in case the battery dies before the phone is found.
Edit: A few years ago I found an iPhone on the Camino Aragonese that was almost out of power. The screen had enough information to assume that the phone belonged to a Catalan but nothing...
I realize this thread is a few years old but in case anyone gets back here I agree with this. It would be stretching the point in calling it a rest day since most will be taking some time off in nearby León anyway but calling it a zero day or touring day gets to the point. There's a lot to see...
Sahagún is the unofficial halfway point of the CF and you can get a train to León from there. It is bigger than a lot of the meseta towns and has a fair number of things to see.
@Peregrinopaul posted pictures of the rocky path down to Zubiri and also discussed its geology in another thread similar to this one. Paul has seven pictures in the post linked to below and another picture a few posts earlier...
We walked it in 2015. I didn't think it a problem at all and said as much a year or two ago in a thread about how bad it was. Then I saw some pictures.
I haven't but I thank you for your report. If I do walk the CF again I may still take this trail but now knowing that it may make me wish I was still in my backpacking years.
Valcarlos on the lower camino route is about 11 km west of SJPdP and an easy walk. Maybe you'll have time to get there for your first night. Certainly if you take a taxi. You could taxi back to SJPdP in the morning or continue your walk from Valcarlos. Other towns near SJPdP could do as well I...
Nice to hear from you again Andy (how's Randy, Sandy and Candy?)
In response to your question I think you should bribe @trecile. She does supply a huge amount of help for free but I haven't seen her summon great walking weather for anything less than 10€. Maybe you can make up the deficit with...
For those reading this thread that are unfamiliar with the two ways down to Roncesvalles from the Col de Lepoeder, there is a forest trail that is marked as the "official" Camino and also a less steep variant way leading to the Col de Ibañeta on the Valcarlos Camino variant. This latter variant...
This isn't exactly what you're looking for but as long as you are going shopping ...

To give a recommendation I would like to know more about your preferences but I will suggest that between your two preferences you start from Burgos. You will appreciate the meseta from the start or learn to love it. I think walking all the way to the sea is best appreciated from those who...
That's a 24⁰ range. The record is 27⁰ in two minutes due to a Chinook wind, a downhill warming of the wind. 😯
