Hi Cecelia ! I agree with the 'totally gross' part. I'm trying to avoid the whole sleeping bag scenario entirely... but I have 7 months to decide :) .. almost Vancouverite ?
Thanks Varda for bringing this up. I am more comfortable in these kind of shoes myself.
My question now is: Do you think trail runners will be fine on the CF for the month of May ? or do I need something a little more weather-sturdy ?
~Many thanks~
Thank you so much to everyone who responded!!!!! I sort of already knew this, but suppose I just needed a little re-assurance from some experienced pellegrinos. I can breathe and relax now that you've helped to subdue my temporary 'omg' moment :)
Moderator ~ are you able to close this thread...
Oh don't get me wrong, I'm all up for the adventure part... I've been caught up in others panic and plugged in my own dates just for fun.. was shocked at the limited availability. I know from experience that the better sleeps are those places that don't involve themselves with the big 'corp'...
I've been sussing out several great recommendations from forum members on where their first nights sleep was in SJPDP, but i'm running into roadblocks with expedia/booking.com etc as these sites are saying 'nothing available' for my date ~ May 9, 2015.
Am I looking too far in advance or could...
I'll be going there tomorrow anyways to get gear for my son... I'll take a look. Did you treat your bag against bedbugs ? That was the whole purpose of me getting a silk liner
Great finds...
I think either of those may work for my early May thru to June on the Camino Frances? Would you think I'd still need a silk liner?
~Cari
Hello Angie !
I'll be walking pretty close to when you're planning. Right now I'm making tentative plans to leave YVR either May 8th or May 9th. I'd prefer to start walking on the 10th (Mothers's Day) but that will really depend on if I end up flying into London or Paris and if I decide to...
A few months back a forum member posted a time lapse video clip of his walk from sjpdp to roncesvalles. I thought I bookmarked it, but didn't and now for the life of me I cannot find it on here. Does anyone remember this and if so, can you point me in the right direction?
Many thanks!
Cari
Agreed... my boots are most important. I really didn't want to check my bag going though, but if that's what it takes, then so be it. ~ Thanks for all the great wisdom ~
I really wasn't worried about losing anything until the stories on here scared me. I had planned to wear my walking shoes onto the plane... never thought otherwise actually... and I've decided that my travel points are going to buy me an extra bit of legroom in premium economy. Although...
Thanks for the input Lise T, Al & Bajaracer.
Never even thought that there may be taxes/duties and having the poles to practice beforehand is a smart thing :)
I've gotten myself paranoid over other peoples travel woes... I'll stay optimistic that things will travel smoothly thru airport...
I'm not sure where I should post this initial question but seeing how my camino will start in SJPDP I will start here.
There is frequent talk about being able to send items ahead to SdC so that they are there for you at the end of your camino... My questions is: is there somewhere in SJPDP...
but Jeff... does the pilgrim wonder stick collapse so it can be carried onto the airplane ? or is it just the satan poles that offer this modern convenience ?? :p
I too cannot add anything else that hasn't already been said. I admire your courageous spirit. While unfortunate circumstances have prevented you from your original plans, embrace the experience, mourn it, learn from it and above all else continue with your journey in your own special new way...
Thanks for the feedback. I really wasn't keen on taking a sleeping bag. I'm planning for mid May to June 2015, but may have change my plans for Sept/Oct 2015 because of work schedules. Good to know that my layers will keep me warm !
