Hi Tony,
The centre Marie-Madeleine does not use the pilgrims shelter for refugee.
You will find a bed.
You may check Centre Sainte Madeleine
Or the bureau d’accueil des pèlerins for more information.
Buen Camino,
Jacques-D.
Yeah, it could be a wrong turn.
But sometimes, depending of you physical condition, it is still an interesting challenge ;)
And sometimes, my curiosity overcomes my fears.

Yes.
I have stopped to advertise for "La Voie de Vézelay" just to avoid having a dramatic increase in the numbers.
Those who search will find, in any case...
Buen Camino,
Jacques-D.
PS: I am not so overconfident in the result of my silence...
Another possibility would be to start from Orthez, on the Voie de Vézelay.
It is around 70 km before St-Jean-Pied-de-Port and has a train station.

Hi Robo,
You're right: a "gite" is like a private albergue: basic is a bed in a dormitory, but you may find private rooms and more services (like a dinner).
"Chambre d'hôtes" is more like B&B or Casa Rural. Most cases the price will reflect the comfort difference.
"Demi pension" means that...
When you are at L'Esprit du Chemin in Anthien, you may meet Arno, who is one of the maintainer of https://www.voiedevezelay.eu/en .
He may be able to help in contacting further hosts for you.

The GR 654 is a hiking trail (GR means Grande Randonnée).
The route coming from the yellow Guide Chassain is the historical way, or at least as close as possible to it.
The main difference is that the GR654 is around 200 km longer.
The historical way is maintained by the "Association des Amis...

The Voie de Vezelay is not so popular.
Accomodations can be quite scarce.
I would reccomend you to book 1-2 days in advance.
See the portal for la Voie de Vezelay for the most up-to-date information.

From the mobile phone point-of-view, 112 is a special number:
You can dial it without unlocking the phone
You can make a call without SIM
You can make a call on an other operator network
These functions are part of the standards all mobile devices should comply in order to be sold.
In short...
I am using several pieces of this one:

Fast charging and reliable...
Don't forget to select the EU format if you order it...

I would go to the SJPDP, check the weather forecasts at the Pilgrim Office and decide to wait one or two days if necessary for a better weather.
In 2017, I was there with a pilgrim friend who was eager to go over the Pyrenees. He got pouring rain all the day.
I started one day later, got very...
Strangely I haven't choose a camino: the camino chooses me!
I never thought of it, it was always clear as water: I will start from Vézelay.
15 years ago, but I still remember that I never questioned it and was sure from the first time I thought of going to Santiago that the first steps would be...

It is running only in the good season (25 June till 25 September).
You'll need around 3.5 hours from Geneva Airport to the Hospice.
You can check the schedule and buy tickets here.
Simply the fill...
