Walking to O Cebreiro from bus stop in Pedrafita do Cebreiro

Well, we can respectfully disagree on whether the road is dangerous or not!? I have been on that road, when it was very busy and the taxis were racing up and down around the curbs! Fear-mongering😄 no… my experience! But The statement, “ You came all that way to walk, and you take a cab...

Finally - real food in Santiago!!!

Well University cafeterias abound throughout Europe. And over the years I often have availed myself of some decent tasty food. That said, when I look to “dine” on the CF, I have a few personal favorite Restaurants or albergues along the way, that cook excellent food and are well before...

Walking to O Cebreiro from bus stop in Pedrafita do Cebreiro

The OP is taking a bus from Ponferrada to Piedrafita and not climbing the segment to OCebreiro. OP is asking about climb up to O Cebreiro. Not everyone’s equipped to do a sustained hill walk. OCebreiro is a great place to start a camino!! Don’t we agree that where someone starts their Camino...

Walking to O Cebreiro from bus stop in Pedrafita do Cebreiro

The walk up the road is not particularly a safe place to walk. Cars come around those curbs pretty fast!

Walking to O Cebreiro from bus stop in Pedrafita do Cebreiro

If you decide to take a taxi….call ahead! Sometimes there is a substantial wait because the taxis are limited in the area. So I would call from Ponferrada to pick you up about 15 minutes after the scheduled arrival time.

Walking to O Cebreiro from bus stop in Pedrafita do Cebreiro

It is a bit of a climb, for about 5km. You can take a taxi for circa €10?

Do you drop any personal restrictions on Camino?

We try to make healthy food choices on the camino and at home and try to be respectful of people and our environment. Circumstances, may not always be optimal, but no real significant changes.

Do some people not get stamps?

We rarely stay anywhere where it is an absolute requirement to have a credential. I do get one stamped I am walking for someone who might be sick and then, I want the credential for them. But normally, no stamps and no credential anymore.

Problems with Iberia and American Airlines (standby seats and lost luggage)

My comment about a second ticket had to do with availability. If you have a ticket for a specific time, and can change it on the day of travel, great, but there still needs to be availability on another train for you to get on! It is possible that some later trains on the day of travel, may...

Problems with Iberia and American Airlines (standby seats and lost luggage)

Amachant, having the flexibility to take a later train is important. I would also keep an eye out for availability on those later trains( remember one must have a seat, no standing room on the train). Sometimes, when I know that train availability is tight, I buy a second train ticket that I...

Problems with Iberia and American Airlines (standby seats and lost luggage)

Good Luck! If flight is on time in T1, then transfer shuttle to T2, Metro to Sants and if you have no checked luggage you may just make it? If time is tight consider taxi? https://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.com/en/faq/airport/transport/renfe/time-to-travel-airport-to-sants-train-station.html

Problems with Iberia and American Airlines (standby seats and lost luggage)

I try, whenever possible, to fly directly to a destination….even when a connecting flight in Europe is substantial cheaper. So for the CF, I always fly directly to Madrid then take the train to my starting point! The problem the OP describes is prevalent among many airlines. I recently flew...

Ranking my top 10 foods from the Camino

    (10) Restaurant de Tagliatella in Pamplona is always a winner! Sometimes you need a reservation, however. Whatever we order from the menu has been good…definitely not on €35 per day budget. Once or twice Chuleton. Usually in Leon and Arzua. Home cooked baked chicken at an albergue in...

    Stomach Bug on Meseta

Actually we usually use tissues which I carry and periodically replenish, to touch the handles and open the bathroom doors. We also do this on airplanes because their bathrooms are disgusting too! Clorox wipes, which will kill the Norovirus, are brought from home. We also bring a small amount...

    Stomach Bug on Meseta

I am really surprised there are not more infections on the CF! The conditions and lack of ventilation in some locations on the CF forces me to avoid certain bathrooms at all cost, unless, we early risers, get to it before the crowds. Sometimes there is no soap, no toilet paper, and the...

Death of American pilgrim in Castromaior today

I now skip Castromaior. It is quicker and less hilly to stay on the road after Gonzar and stay Straight to the T in the road, cross over the highway, make a left and you rejoin other pilgrims as they make a right on there way to Ventas de Naron. When you get to T there are camino signs there...

Cinque Terra - one way walking only

I have hiked this route many times. It is the blue path #2 from Monterossa heading southeast to Vernazza. It is approximately a 12 km section. It is a hilly and rocky section in part and also narrow in parts. The trail between Riomaggiore and Manarola (Via dell'Amore) and Manarola to...
