    Santiago hotel on bus route

Or right on Praza de Galicia there is the Hotel Universal.. quite posh, but affordable with big rooms, and opposite it is the Hotel residential Fornos. I have stayed in both of these in the past. Ten minutes walk from the bus/train station and ten minutes from the cathedral.

A few questions about starting from Malaga

I walked a few days of the Mozerabe out of Málaga last November, I loved the simplicity of it, a pared down, back to basics camino. But be prepared for your own company, and making a dailly plan. Otherwise, go with the Portuguese coastal, where you will have lots of choices of everything...

    Compostela: Electric Bikes Excluded?

What would it matter? People believe they're fooling everyone when all the while they're just fooling themselves. Let them claim what they want. It's their hollow victory.

    Compostela Question

Whatever about the particular circumstances of Robo's friend, compostelas have, and are indeed issued to pilgrims walking Muxia/Finesterre/Santiago.

Finally - real food in Santiago!!!

There are literally hundreds of places to eat in Santiago to cater for all tastes, good and bad. The university cafeteria is an ok place to eat. It's cheap (or good value, if you prefer the term) has had prompt service anytime I've been there, and it's away from the general throng, it certainly...

Spanish language on Caminos outside of Spain

Mountain ranges form pretty good natural and sometimes cultural and language barriers between countries. I think this is largely true of the Pyrenees.. distinctly French on one side, distinctly Spanish on the other. I think it's fair to say that, very generally apeaking, the French and Spanish...

Botafumeiro used at today's pilgrim mass

Good to see that it's back in place after such a long absence! Cathedral and office staff refer to it in the masculine and often abreviate it to 'el bota'.. As it's a shortened version of a masculine noun, it's still masculine!

    Brand New Cafe in Ventosa

I'm sure it will be buzzing. I stopped in Ventosa last October. It was pleasant enough, wasn't lacking in services, though some (many?) bypassed it. I hope there's room for another..

Finally - real food in Santiago!!!

I've eaten there a good number of times since discovering it about five years ago. The food's ok, certainly good value, and the staff are efficient and friendly. Occasionally pilgrims but mostly locals, a nice alternative to the touristy spots.

Hand drawn stamps between Astorga and Santiago

Sorry, I can't help with your specific question but.. Wax stamps look nice when you get them but I've always found they inevitably crack and crumble.. mind you, I just stuff my credencial in my pocket, I'm not too precious with it. Hand drawn or painted ones are special though, as are embossed...

    Alert Dogs attack in Vilardongo

I think you're giving the little dog a bit too much credit for rational thinking and consideration. It was probably down to luck that he didn't manage to sink his teeth into your calf. But still, good on you for remaining calm and not escalating the situation. It can be tricky when there are...

    Necessary to reserve gites?

Best to email or whatsApp the day before, just to let them know you're coming, they may not be there and may need to give you a door code.

Are passport copies accepted at albergues?

Where I volunteered most recently (in Spain), we scanned the passports/d.n.i. cards with a dedicated mobile phone which was set up with an app that logged and stored the relevant details and which could be accessed and inspected if necessary. I dont know how long this information was stored for...

Pau or Oloron Sainte Marie to Puente de la Reina

If you have the time, I would suggest starting further back.. In mid April, I started from Pau. A couple of hours of walking through the suburbs got me to the beautiful old town of Lescar with it's impressive former cathedral. There's only a bakery and butchers in the town, and a bar on the...

"What a hardcore thru-hiker can learn on the Camino de Santiago"

Good points. To give his piece more weight, his statement that 'there are towns, hostels, and bars at two-hour intervals the entire way' does ignore the fact that The Ways are a whole network of paths and feeds into the impression, which still prevails, that The Way according to Martin Sheen...
