Our second day on the Norte.
Started out of San Sebastián at 7:15. Cool but no wind and the sun finally appeared around noon.
About a dozen pilgrims along the way.
Made a stop at Orio for tortilla and coffee and into Zarautz at 1:30.
Flew San Francisco to Paris on United Airlines on April 30.
United has a “fly ready” procedure on their website which verifies your vaccination status, and asks that you have filled out your EU located form.
Our boarding passes had “fly ready “ on them.
When we arrived at Paris CDG, we weren’t...
Everyone has a different experience on their first Camino. The important thing is to take it at your own pace. Admittedly, that first stage is a bit rough and can be discouraging or intimidating to a lot of people. Don’t push it to Roncesvalles if you don’t feel up for it. As mentioned, you...
Walked Camino del Norte three years ago, starting in Irun on April 27. We cut down and did the Primitivo and finished the last few days on the Frances.
Had a blast so we’re walking it again beginning May 3 this year, again from Irun.
Planning 34 days of walking and mostly on the Norte. We’ll cut...
I wouldn’t if you’re trying to minimize your weight.
You can always drape an article of clothing over it in a light shower.
Our packs are right at 15 pounds, which includes walking poles, a poncho, lightweight gloves, a light jacket, and a full water bottle.
Actual hiking weight will be less if...
June and July will have little chance of rain.
If you want 'just in case' rain gear, I'd just bring along one of those very light plastic ponchos.
Chances are you'll only get an occasional rain shower, if at all, so a light jacket that's somewhat water resistant might suffice when a shower...
I wouldn't let the Orisson reservation determine your Camino.
We did the Frances in 2017 and had a blast but did the Norte/Primitivo in 2019 and had a better time.
Yes, there are more hills on the Norte but a lot less people and beautiful scenery and beaches.
But when it comes down to it, if...
True, Spain does have entry requirements regarding Covid. It's a given that you need to fill out an FCS form online to get a SpTH QR code to fly or boat in, but apparently not necessary if you cross the border by land. You should at the minimum have your vaccination status cleared.
I'm flying...
As I understand, if you're walking across the border between France and Spain, there is virtually no one checking for anything. ie: SJPDP to Roncenvalles.
I’m flying from the US to Paris on April 30, and will take a train to Hendaye on May 5 to start the Camino del Norte.
I have my CDC card as well as proof of vaccination from my health insurance provider which has a QR code on it. Just in case.
You will also need to fill out the EU locater form...
As mentioned previously, if your all your flights are on the same ticket, your Covid test must be no more than 72 hours before your first flight.
If you’re fully vaccinated, you really do not need a negative Covid test to enter Portugal by air but the airlines will require it before flying.
If...
We're taking the train from Paris to Hendaye on 5 May and crossing the border into Irun, Spain to begin the Camino del Norte.
We will have our EU Locater but I know Spain has it's own entry rules. Does anyone know if we need to fill out Spain's FCS form to get the SpTH QR code? I believe you...
If you don't mind taking the metro with your bags, take RER B from CDG to Châtelet Les Halles or Denfert Rochereau, then transfer to Metro line 4 to Montparnasse.
