    VDLP two weeks in

I do understand how you are feeling. I did the camino from Le Puy in France with school girl french and about six English speaking pilgrims. There were plenty of little villages but it was nowhere near as enjoyable as the CF last year. Have you thought about getting on a bus to CF?

Would a summer sleeping bag be enough on the Camino Frances (and possibly camino Invierno) in September/October?

Hi. I walked CF last October. The first two weeks were hot above 30 degrees Celsius and the third and fourth week it was cold and wet. I took a 600 gm Decathlon sleeping bag 60 Australian dollars and it was fine10-20 degrees Celsius . A lot of the private albergues had blankets and the...

I wore fingerless cycling gloves which saved the sun damage to my hands and also buffered my hands when using my poles.

Afraid of top bed without fence

I managed to get bottom bunks on the CF in October. On two occasions i was given a top bunk despite asking for one. i declined. They found me a bottom bunk. These were both donativos. This is one reason I try not to stay in donativos. A municipal Albergue had run out of bottom bunks so they...

    Packing - edition one

Everyone is different. I met a wonderful group of Irish women. One told me she could smell something on the plane on the way home. It was her bra. Her lovely friend acted as the packing police and told them what they could take. Only one bra was allowed. I took 5 crop tops and five undies...

I wouldn't take the emergency poncho, or hand warmers. I would take the rain pants. I would add an umbrella.

I was walking in France One time a car nearly hit me whilst walking on a pedestrian crossing. The car sped through the pedestrian crossing. Another time I was walking on the pavement in a town when a car nearly hit me coming up the alley extremely fast and slammed on the brakes. I was...

    Bar Etiquette

I walked with an American pilgrim who had walked the CF the year before. He said he always took the plates back to the bar. I started doing it and the bar workers were very grateful.

    Bar Etiquette

Was at the first, very busy bar with only one person serving. He served the guy next to me who came 15 minutes after me. I put my hand up to say what about me and the person serving went ballistic at me in Spanish. It was obvious what he was saying but a woman told me what he said later. At...

    Oct/Nov

I walked CF last October, two weeks of sun and two weeks of solid rain. Washers and dryers were expensive. 5 euro each in a lot of places. Good idea to bring a washing bag to place your dirty clothes in making it easier to share washing machine and dryer with other pilgrims and share the cost.

The one thing I should have done before I left for the Camino

I find all these 'have to do things' plus packing, travelling etc take a lot of time so it is a relief to get to the start of the camino and just walk. Yeh!

I have flown with Qatar twice from Australia. Both times I carried on my backpack 38 Litre Osprey Eja with rigid frame. One time I packed walking poles and pocket knife in a cylinder that got checked in. The second time I bought them there with toiletries. One time I had to check in my...

The one thing I should have done before I left for the Camino

I would ring your debit card company to check that your card is still valid. I arrived in France to find mine didn't work because they had cancelled it. Always have backup credit and debit cards.
