    Route from Vigo changed?

Could you post a screenshot of the route through Vigo in Buen Camino? I know we followed wise pilgrim so when I opened it and saw no route through downtown Vigo I felt like I was losing my mind! In photos on FB the bike lane looks horrible to me. Totally sterile and removed from the city.

Best app to accurately record distances, elevation and descent per day

My walking partner used GaiaGPS. It can also make a video with your photos.

How to choose a Camino Prep Fitness Program?

You sound like you’re in pretty good shape so I’m sure you could do it without more training. But if you want to train harder you will not regret it! I walked and did Pilates. Pilates is great for strengthening all the little muscles that support our joints and contribute to balance. I did a one...

    Route from Vigo changed?

I’m seeing a lot of discussion on FB about the route out of Vigo. People are recommending taking a new bike path that starts at the Ascensor Halo and ends at Chapela because the official route is ugly, boring, or something. I don’t remember it being bad at all last fall so I pulled up my photos...

What do you wish you had worried less about?

I haven’t read ALL the replies but I’m pretty sure nobody else had this worry: bras. I was obsessed with bras! I bought at least 5 different styles of bra before my Camino trying to find the perfect lightweight, quick dry, easy to take on/off, breathable bra. I did find a pretty good one. But no...

    Long sleeve sun safe top

My very sun sensitive walking partner wore a long sleeve linen shirt every day in very hot weather and loved it. It didn’t always dry over night but she didn’t mind wearing it a little damp. She wore sun screen, as well, and didn’t get burned. She also carried a sunbrella that she loved. She...

Choice of backpack for daily packing (Ingles in October)

Here’s another way to think about the day pack issue we bag transporters have. I had a borrowed a 30L Deuter pack. I used it as my only luggage and was able to carry it on my flight. Then I transported my largest packing cube with my heaviest stuff: toiletries, guide book, extra clothes...

    Trans Canada Trail

I saw Dianne Whelan’s documentary last night about her epic walk/bike/canoe traverse of the Trans Canada Trail. It is a wonderful adventure story and serves as a great reminder of the jaw dropping beauty of this country. Although very few people will attempt an end to end walk, I’d like to do a...

How do you wear a hat with a backpack?

On a training walk, I tried out a new brimmed hat and started getting a stiff neck. I realized that I was straining forward because my hat was bumping into my pack. It was very subtle but over a long walk, it hurt. So I know what you’re talking about! I ended up just grabbing a hat with a...

Senda Litoral late April-May and what to pack

I wore Brook Ghosts which are road runners as opposed to trail runners. Maximum cushioning. Not very durable but they easily lasted my SL/Coastal Camino. I’m still wearing them.

A shout out to el pimiento de Padrón

I just ordered seeds to plant this spring! I’ve been growing shishitos for a few years with great success. I’m going to grow both this year to compare. If anyone else is interested in growing them, I ordered from The Incredible Seed Company in Canada. Johnny’s Seeds carry them in the States.

    Reserve early to avoid disappointment!

Are there accommodations on this route that are strictly first come first serve like municipal albergues in Spain? I thought you had to book in advance.

    Bouncing between Central and Coastal

I “bounced” between the SL/Coastal and the Central and I had a wonderful Camino. Porto - Vila do Conde - Rates - Ponte de Lima - Viana da Castelo - Spiritual Variant- SdC. However, with hind sight I’ve become a purist. The two routes are very different and have a different story to tell. You...

    Camping along the coastal route

Camping along the Camino is not that easy. I think you’ll have to walk a long way off route each night to find a camp ground. Are you trying to save money or you just like sleeping under the stars?

    Kidney stones and the Camino

Maybe slightly related? I’m following the Global Solo Challenge which is an around the world nonstop solo sailing race. Two of the 15 (I think?) competitors have passed kidney stones during the race. Ugh, can you imagine?! Anyway I’m guessing these sailors could be prone to dehydration too but...

Into Baiona - Litoral or Coastal?

This is very interesting to me. No one has mentioned the “bike path”. We took the overland route because I was so sick and tired of walking on that “bicycle path” which was really a painted yellow lane on a very busy road (busiest road of the entire Camino). Wise Pilgrim said the coastal route...

Portuguese coastal in February '24 – observations and reflections

Wow. I walked my first Camino on the Senda Litoral in late September last year, too. That was an astounding number? I wasn’t staying in albergues though. Was that where you saw them? There were lots starting in Baiona and Vigo but to that point we’d see a few a day, more in isolated cafes. We...

LIVE from the Camino Camino Portugues - Coastal from Porto: Starting in Porto

Re. Grilled octopus This was the best I’ve ever had: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ButRCveanexQHMtq5?g_st=ic On the Senda Litoral before Vigo. Thank you for live posting your walk. It’s so lovely to relive the CP. I walked it last October.
