    Women: Advice on trail runners/shoes

I haven’t had a blister since I ditched my boots for a pair of Merrell walking shoes. They have to feel like carpet slippers from the first try on. Re Keens! My Keen’s walking shoe lasted 100 k in the VDLP. Bottom fell off one on a muddy vineyard track! Hah!!

Buen camino Please take enough water and a broad brim hat. The heat can be really rough especially the stretch from Caceres to the Embalsa. I so admire those of you who share such personal stories. May the camino angels watch out for you.

    Continuous itching after returning home

Poor thing Itching is awful. If the itch had blisters it could be Tinea. I got it on one camino and passed it to my poor partner. Mainly on feet but can be elsewhere. Good luck with a solution. Skin specialist might be your best port of call

    Via Augusta Impressions

Thanks D So you can go right or left at that farm? Left up the hill and past the ruin wasvaldo overgrown and muddy but got us to near the bridge over the autovia I also carry a Dazer. I call it my dog killer but if course it just emits a sound that puts them off. Got it from the web. Bought it...

    Via Augusta Impressions

Thanks for your advice. We are on the Augusta and have barely seen a soul. No other pilgrims. The last bit into Las Cabezas is tricky. Not great signage, muddy overgrown track. The nasty dogs belong to a nice farmer who directed us left up a small hill past a ruined building. So you don’t go...

Medical assistance for multiple large blisters, both feet!

Poor thing!! I haven’t had blisters since I ditched my boots for Merrells. Also when the blisters start change to good walking sandals like Tevas. Hope you are better soon

    Medical or Physio sought

Fingers crossed for you. Good to get advice and rest leg. I changed from boots to Merrell walking shoes and have been a happy bunny ever since! Think about changing. I got my Merrells in Leon. Cost a bit but worth every cent. I saw a health centre when we were on the Last bit of the...

Walking with my parents, who are mid-70's

Agree with this kind advice. Footwear is critical. If boots give you blisters switch to good shoes like Merrells with good sandals like Tevas to change into if you ferl blisters coming. Go at your own pace! If from SJdeP agree with stop halfway up the mountain. I wish we had. It isn't a race...

    Dental Care

I broke a front canine tooth on theMozarabe a year or so ago. We then moved on to Ourense where I found the BEST dentist! I felt so ashamed that I had doubted the standard of dentistry. The staff were lovely. The equipment was state of the art. The dentist did a sensational job of repairing the...

    New to camino

Agree. We are here to support not criticise. The Caminos are good at teaching us how imperfect we are and how diifferent everyone's experiences are. Re shoes. I take one pair of Merrell walking shoes and a pair of Teva sandals. These are brilliant because you can walk in them if you need to give...

Warning for women walking alone between Viana and Torres del Rio

This is just horrible! But don't let it put you off your Camino. For every creep there are angels! Maybe walk close to others for a few days!!

    How many bites is typical?

Agree! Bed bug bites seem to be smaller and many many! Flea bites tend to be in little groups of 2 or 3. I got them in a private albergue in Puente la Reina and in the church one in Leon! They look terrible and feel worse! I hope yours resolve soon but see a doctor just in case!!!

    The future of Camino Hospitality

Thank you Rebekah for this kind sharing of your wisdom and great experience of the Camino and its futures, possible, probably, plausible and preferable. I have been walking Caminos since 2007 and of course I have noticed the huge differences in the way and in those who travel it. Unrestrained...

My first Camino - approaching 70

probably still cold and wet. Can't make it a bit later???:) Do read Tony Kevin's Walking the Camino to get really good walking advice. Training is great, but funnily enough it doesn't always prevent blisters etc. Switch boots for something like Merrill walkers if that happens . People don't...
