    It's Different This Year

Yes, absolutely! I made a generalization in one if my posts and have had a good chance to reflect on a lot - the posts and my own recent walk. The feedback on a lot of different threads (mine included) has been interesting and lessons learned. Thanks for the feedback. S

Was there a death on the Camino recently?

Thanks for responding and for the information. Will you have a chance to share your sentiments with the family? It's nice that you had moments to share and to see Dario in his element. It sounds like he was a person who embodied a lot of great things. Thanks again.

What is the one albergue you would avoid?

Thanks for responding. It's so interesting to hear the different opinions. There have been other places listed that people panned that I thought were just fine. There are so many factors that can influence us. For me, sometimes the social possibilities, the kindness of the hospitalero or the...

    It's Different This Year

I've been enjoying all of the dialogues on the various dimensions of the Camino. It's such a metaphor for what happens in life. On the Camino, there are those high moments as well as the ones in which you struggle; there are individuals or groups of folks who might get under your skin and...

What is the one albergue you would avoid?

I stayed there last year and thought it was fine. Did you actually spend time in the living quarters? I liked the set up of bunks being in groups of 4. The kitchen facilities were good as well.

    It's Different This Year

Last year I walked from Burgos to Santiago and returned this year to walk from SJPP to Burgos. For the most part, i walked the in part of May and June. The first 6 days of this trip were rain-filled. It takes more cognitive and physical energy to keep yourself safe while walking in conditions...

Warning: Reports of Scam in Galicia

Watch for the two men walking in the opposite direction and claiming to be walking Hungarians walking back to Hungary. Spotted on the leg approaching San Juan de Ortega just after the Spanish 'Monumento a Los Caidos'. They were approaching many pilgrims ( which I knew at later stop via...

Was there a death on the Camino recently?

I started the Camino out of SJPP on May 27th, walked to Orisson that day and then over the Pyrennes in horrible weather on May 28th. There is a rumour about that a Brazilian who got lost in the fog and died on the 27th. I can't find anything to substantiate this. Is this true? I've only...

    Anyone begining this May???

I'm leaving on the 27th from SJPP and will be walking to Orisson that day. On the 28th I will be in Roncesvalles. If you walk straight to Roncesvalles from SJPP on your first day (the 28th), our paths may cross. I am a tall Canadian with curly hair. Cheers! Sonya

    Hiking Shoes, or Hiking Boots?

Last year I walked from Burgos and started with a pair of merrells - I had worn the model previously and they were broken in. For some reason they did not work on the Camino. It got to bad with feet cramps that I bought new shoes in Leon. I thought that I could continue status quo or take a...

Just how difficult is it getting over The Pyrenees..

Thank you for your comments. . I hike a lot in the Rockies west of Calgary and people I know who have hiked the Camino have told me that if I hike in the Rockies then the Pyrennes will be manageable.

    Class of 2013

I'm starting out on that same day! I'll be walking only to Orisson. I'm a tall Canadian with crazy curls. Perhaps I shall run into you. Buen Camino!

    broken wrists

Agreed. Last year when I walked and had three days of struggling with severe leg cramping, I used the luggage transport service to help out with this. It's a handy service if you need it.

    broken wrists

I broke my right wrist (also my dominant side) a number of years ago and got the cast off right before I went travelling in Spain and Portugal. I was not walking the Camino but was travelling with a backpack. It wasn't fun. My wrist/arm were horribly weak and I had to have help from a friend...

    My Macabi Hiking Skirt

If you don't wear tights, put body glide on your inner thighs to prevent chafing. It's the same product that you can put on your feet to prevent blistering.
