Hello Arlene. Anne Maddock from Oz here. I am currently planning Lisbon - Santiago for next year, possible September. We will miss meeting yet again. [ October 2013] Still following your blog.
I used Black Diamond carbon fibre Z poles. They were fantastic. They fold up rather than retract or telescope. They are very lightweight and comfortable. Be sure to get the right length. Couldn't do without them.
I wore my wonderful Scarpa boots for the Camino and took a pair or Teva Toachi sandals. They were great for walking around town, evening wear and shower footwear. Yes, on some chilly evenings, I wore socks, but with long pants the look wasn't too bad. The two pairs were sufficient.
Blessings.
Didn't like Compeed. Like many others, sticky, messy on socks, hard to remove without lifting skin.
I used a barrier cream, Silic 15, available in Australia. Coated my feet every day. Wore woollen socks. When I felt a pressure point, applied a piece of gauze ( cut a small bandage up) and taped...
I have just walked Camino Frances gluten free, sin gluten in Spanish. I carried a packet of gf rice cakes in my pack, as well as a small tin of tuna, olives or capsicum. Often bought cheese or ham at supermercado and it was fine without refrigeration for a night. Goats cheese was my preference...
Taxi will be €21 flat rate and take you directly to Plaza de Inmaculada. Perfect location. I stayed there at the end of my Camino in late October.

24 weeks today and I will be winging my way to Madrid on the flying kangaroo. Very excited but realize I haven't done nearly enough training. Really must get walking more now it is cooling down. Thanks again to all who have posted advice and encouragement.
Blessings.
Hello Bunclody.
I arrive in Leon on 22 September and begin walking on 25th. After a 35 hour flight I am spending some time in Leon to recover from the travel and to get ready to begin walking.
I have 28 days in total and plan on going to Muxia and Finisterre also.
What dates in September are...
Teva sandals are available in Australia. I have bought a pair of Teva Toachi 2 sandals for my Camino in September. Have been wearing them a bit and they are strong and supportive but very light. Paddy Pallin stock them. They are about $115.00 but look out for the specials. Blessings.
Great to read the responses and know that lots of you are busy planning and training for your Camino.
As the time draws closer, there are some anxious moments, many questions of myself about my ability to complete my Camino and much support. I know that all will be well, but I am quite nervous...
Thankyou Falcon 269.
You have just made my planning a whole lot easier. I fly into Madrid, arriving at 13.30 on a Sunday. I should be able to get the 15:00 bus, arriving Leon at 19:15. I originally planned to travel by train, but that may be a little more complex. With a 30 hour journey to...
Have most of my gear for Camino Frances from Leon beginning late September. Have agonised over choosing a jacket however, but all your responses are leading me to the Marmot Precip jacket. I will have to buy online so wondering about women's sizing. I am of "generous" proportion so may be better...
I too will be in the Class of 2013.
I am Anne from Australia, where we are currently experiencing extremes of weather - 46 degrees last week and 14 degrees today!! I do hope this helps me be prepared for any weather conditions on the Camino.
All my flights are booked. I leave Sydney on 21...
Reality strikes. I have just booked my flights, Sydney to Madrid, via Dubai and London. Arrive in Leon on 22nd September 2013 and will have 4 weeks from Leon to SdC and Finisterre. After 10 years of prayer, glimmers of hope, guidance and God moments, it just happened tonight that I decided not...
Hello Tess42 and Frankieg. I too am traveling from Australia, in September 13.
I went to the Spanish Club gathering last Saturday. Lovely people. Lots of stories shared. Lots of good advice. Try and get there if you can. They meet informally at 12 on first Saturday of even months and on a...
I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC FT10 which will be going with me on my Camino. I have had it for over a year now but bought it for these reasons : it is fully waterproof and shockproof. It has a good zoom without a lens which moves. Past experience has shown that it is often the lens movement which...
The never ending question - insure or not?
I have a global travel insurance policy which covers 365 days a year, anywhere in the world. It covers medical, money, luggage, flights etc. costs about the same as some policies which are for 4 weeks.
Available from Allianz, which is a French based...
I am using an Osprey hydration pack, 2 litre. It slides in and out of my pack very easily, holds its form well, has a wide mouth for filling and keeps balanced. Don't have to stop to drink and can take small sips as required. Can still stop to refill as needed and socialize, on my training...
