    September Camino 2024

I am in no way trying to be a jerk or obnoxious. I hear the term mindful all the time and I really have no idea what it really means. I know what mindless means. I actually apply my own definition to mindless when I am walking. That is thinking only gets you in trouble. Thinking is what got me...

    For all members

Here is my answer. Who cares what anyone uses as a definition. What someone else thinks (in the immortal words of my Grandma) It's not your business. If someone tries to define me when I am on or off the camino, especially those who do not know me well or at all, I give them the standard answer...

Weather in November on the Frances and the Portugues

i have been walking in late October, November and December for a long time. You NEVER know what will happen. 8 years ago on the CP from Lisbon starting in October and ending early November. No rain and temps at the beginning around 90 and later cooled down. I could count on one hand the days...

My Buen Camino app is crashing!!

As we said when we were kids, close but no cigar! Miam Miam Dodo ;)

    Unfortunate, but true...

Personally this grumpy old man could not agree more with the other grumpies and the wonderfully vibrant and far younger @trecile who say walk an uninterrupted camino. This is not to brag but to tell you we have a bunch of caminos between us and are all camino addicts. We have accumulated a fair...

I think you may be correct.

    My own socks test

Love Brooks Cascadias and I recommended the OP to check them out.

    My own socks test

That totally is the way of the world for sure. I wouldn't have been surprised if you said they cost even less to make. Every brand and even models of the same brand fit differently. For sure try the wide in one size up in the speedgoats.

    My own socks test

I have always worn the regular model. I think the difference with the GTX is that it is waterproof. Yes my Cascadias are 2 wide and one size up.

    Finisterre in rain

If it is really bad weather I would opt for Santiago.

Small juicer, vegetarians and heating element?

Or you can hire a Sherpa.

Daily blog on the Camino Portugués

You took some really nice photos. Your first post mentioned how noisy it was because of the airport and you assumed that the people living there get used to it. Believe me they do!!! I grew up in The Bronx and the El (Elevated subway) went right past my window. In fact I could see the faces of...

    My own socks test

I can see your challenges and I hope you had some fun doing your research. May I suggest one thing that you can decide to follow up on, have already looked into and discarded or try for the fun of it. As you use REI and know about their great return policy. It is a great idea to get a wide shoe...

Grabbing lunch while walking Tui to Santiago

As everyone has said you will have no problem finding a bar to buy a bocadillo or a shop to buy some cheese and crackers etc. You can also go to a grocery store the night before and make a sandwich and buy a few little snacks. As for where to sit. You can usually find a tree, a stone wall, patch...

    Scanning Credential and Laminating Compostela

If you want to get and keep your compostelas and it is obviously important to you, no caveat is needed. You need not explain yourself to anyone. I have 8 compostelas. The first one means alot to me. I have given most of my other ones away to children, and close friends. They have all appreciated...

Painful corns on foot - any advice?

My advice to you is simple. You are in pain and even with your temporary fixes you are in pain and it will only get worse. Pain tells you to stop doing what causes the pain. Stop walking and call your Podiatrist and explain to the office that it is an emergency and you need to see the doctor...

Shoes, shoes and more dreaded shoes.....

I think you are 100% correct about people and their observations. I should have added that my scientific observation is as we used to say in The Bronx when I was growing up, "whatever the person just said (fill in the blank) and a quarter will get you on the subway" I was hoping the wink would...

2nd time on Camino Portuguese this summer: need advice!

I can't argue with your assessment of the camino from Coimbra. But when I am asked I never tell people this because I fell in love with Coimbra when I walked from Lisbon. I think it is such a special place. We stayed two nights there. One evening I went out on my own and got completely lost. I...

The people that support pilgrims in their journey are so wonderful. Thanks for letting us know.
