What should I do about calluses?

I find this foot file (see attached) works well for me. Lightweight also. 1 minute of coarse side and then 1 minute of fine side daily. Keeps calluses under control when used on problem areas that pop up. Again - very light weight and slips easily into any pack.

    Foot glide question

I used Vicks Vaporub. Available in practically every farmacia. Worked great and no blisters.

    Never doubt — Casa Ivar

Agree 100%. Ivar walked with me to the post office last October to help make sure I would get my packages when they didn’t reach him in a timely manner for me to pick up. He and his administration of this forum are truly gifts to every pilgrim walking the Camino. Thank you Ivar from our little...

    eSim on iPhone in France?

Did the same thing last year and it worked great.

    Best ATM Debit Card

Schwab. Worked perfectly in 2022 On our Camino. I set mine up to email any transaction more than $1 and usually had an email in less than 1 minute showing my transaction. That way I knew if there was anything funny going on. Also - ALWAYS reject the currency conversion. If you don’t you will get...

My first Camino - Portuguese from Porto, May 2023

Having just walked the Central route in October - I believe you can easily make it in 12 days depending on your health and condition. I would consider the coastal out of Porto for the first few days. I found the first two days on the Central out of Porto were not very enjoyable due to cars...

    eSim recommendations for iPhone 14

Bought an Orange “Holiday Zen” esim (phone, text and data) from simoptions.com back in Sept and it worked great. Bought in the US and activated on the plane upon landing without any issues. Also bought a separate data only plan from Airalo as a backup. ($5). Didn‘t need it but it also worked...

Anyone use Hoka One One shoes?

Used Hoka Speedgoats on the CP last fall without any problems. Comfortable and durable.

Small group tours growing in popularity on Portuguese Camino route

We encountered multiple tour groups during our early fall 2022 CP-Central. It made it challenging a few times when we encountered ”booked by tour group” (full) accommodations after long days of walking. Not sure there is a solution as hotel and albergue owners want the business. One day we...

Purchasing Orange ESIM for Data, Calls and Texts in Europe with Unlocked iPhone: Any Recommendations?

Simoptions.com I bought the 8gb Orange Holiday Zen package.

Purchasing Orange ESIM for Data, Calls and Texts in Europe with Unlocked iPhone: Any Recommendations?

I used Orange back in October. Signed up before leaving the US and turned on when I landed in Paris. Worked well for me. I’ve also used Airalo data only plans with great success as well.

Is 1 hr 15 min layover sufficient at Frankfurt airport for connecting flight to Biarritz with Lufthansa?

Having tried that on our way to a Camino walk a few years back and watching our connecting flight take off without us - I would say - definitely not. If you are going into Frankfort you should give yourself a minimum of 3 hours.

How to Avoid Road Walking on the Camino Portugues

Having just completed the central route in October I would take the coastal out of Porto and cross over to the central after a couple of days. I found the largest portion of road walking (and the loudest) was taking the traditional central route out of Porto. The first 2 days were not enjoyable...

    Coastal or Central

We did the Central out of Porto back in September. We did not enjoy the first two days very much. Lots of walking on or near roads, noisy (cars on cobblestones sound like jets taking off next to you), just not a pleasant experience. It did get better by day 3 but we would most certainly start...

Santiago to Porto - by bus or train?

We used the bus back in October. Pretty easy and inexpensive.

Coastal vs Central (Portuguese) in December

I agree with those who say to take the coastal route out of Porto and then switch over.

Rely on wifi or get a data plan?

I would recommend an esim if your phone supports it. I recently (2 weeks ago) walked the Camino Portuguese and used Airalo. $5 for 1Gb data, set up before I left home and it worked everywhere I travelled in Europe as soon as the plane landed. Used in Paris, Amsterdam, Spain and Portugal...

    Central vs Coastal

Just finished the Central from Porto. I can’t recommend the first 2 days of the Central due to all the road walking. After that it was good, especially from Ponte de Lima northward. Perhaps the coast from Porto for a couple of days is the better option but we have never done that.

    Stages from Porto

Skip the first two stages on the Central route out of Porto (too much road, too many speeding cars and noise). Start at Barcelos or Barcelinhos.

    Spur of the moment!

We are south of Tui and accommodations are somewhat scarce and have been limited at times unless you can “upgrade” to a casa rural or hotel option. Lots of folks walking right now. Also - unless you like walking next to speeding cars - skip the first two days on the the Central out of Porto...
