I used maps.me downloadable ones for an app that cost 5 USD and can have maps for the Whole world download while on wife for free after buying the app. Got me from Orthez in France to Finisterre i Spain without big problems.

Yea just take a break or walk faster for a while. From each our own angle - there is always nice people and idiots and all shades in between. Just "loose" them. It is very easy to do that on the camino.
Sorry mate - IMHO the best part of Le Puy to Santiago is in France, from Le Puy en Velay across Massif Central to Espalion - consider taking a train there.
