It is profound, isn't it. Like mspath said, there is that "sweet sadness of memory" -- I walked the first time on my own and knew before I reached Santiago I would return. 5 months later I walked with my youngest daughter and again, I knew I would return.
I have to admit for the last 6 months...
Even though I've walked two Caminos and the Dingle Way in the last 2 years, I still hear the call to return. After 6 months of relative inactivity, I decided to stop resisting and to start training again. I have absolutely no idea how or when I'm going back to a Camino de Santiago, but at least...
The Dingle Way is tremendously fun loop trek in Ireland. I remember seeing a Camino shell somewhere along the route (maybe it's part of the Camino de Santiago). If it's not long enough for you, you can easily link it with other treks and make it longer. The West Highland Way is my next destination.
The one time I lost my temper on my last pilgrimage was when a biker decided to cut the corner on the trail. Everyone who was walking was expected to stop, get off the trail and let him speed by. I was hot, tired, and incredibly irritated by the condition of the trail, rutted by bicycles that I...
Hey there everyone. I'm not sure where this post should go, but this seemed like a good place to start. Anyway, my daughter and I leave tomorrow morning for the Camino Frances. We will be posting news and photos from the trail when we can. Stop by our blog site...
3-4 km per hour for me, depending upon terrain. With that said, I figure if I play my cards right, I might be able to walk even slower. I love, love, love taking my time getting to Santiago. ;)
Hey Trevor, Mckenzie and will be in SJPdP a week from Friday - we will raise a glass of wine for you and your daughter. In the meantime, maybe she would want to join you on the Camino in the fall - father-daughter trip could be just the ticket. :)
Ditto, all of the above. I'm a former surfer and triathlete - knees and feet and hands are rifled with arthritis. Last September I started out in SJPdP like an old woman (I'm 58) and in November, I walked past the lighthouse at Finesterre, not quite a young woman, but much stronger. I loved it...
Same with me. Last Fall I walked the Camino Frances to Finisterre solo, ending Nov 9, 2013. Less than 6 months later and I'm getting ready to walk again ... This time with my youngest daughter. In fact, it's kind of surprising to me. I knew when I was walking into Santiago that would take...
I wanted to have a picnic one afternoon, so I went to the store and bought some pan, cheese, and apples. A few hours later, sitting on the side of the path I opened my package of cheese only to find it was a block of butter. Going to Spain without any Spanish is pretty darn silly.
Is it just me, or did anyone else think that YouTube video of bedbugs on permethrin treated fabric was a tad bit horrifying? I mean I started to feel some compassion for the little buggers. Not that I'm going to rescue them. ;)
