I have worn several versions of Altras hiking in rocky mtns. I have tried on the LP 4.0 but have not spent enough time in them to evaluate. So far, I am liking the Timp 1.5 as they feel more cushioned than my previous LPs and feel more stable on uneven ground than the very soft Hokas. However...
The Altra Timp 1.5 are immediately comfortable with no break in period required at least for my feet. As you mentioned, they have more cushioning than the Lone Peak but the Timps also have no rock plate. I believe the LP 4.0 now have the rock plate.
I took the Metro train from Madrid airport to the second or third stop (ask at airport) and then took a train to Pamplona. Easy connections and very clean, comfortable trains.

scottdecker,
Since you just recently found this forum have you considered seeing if Corazon Puro has a bed available? They will pick you up in Pamplona if you spend a night with them and drive you to SJPDP the next morning to start your journey.
I plan to be leaving SJPDP on Sept. 9th with an "interesting" group of pilgrims ( listed here on DeadFred's labor of love calendar), so I may miss you. Have a confident journey brimming over with laughter!
