I am planning my third attempt at the VDLP next year and am just getting things and thoughts together. Waterproof jackets are perplexing me. For my first camino in 2016 I found a Montane Minimus jacket that was very long in the body and covered ones bottom/butt and weighed a mere 245g...
I always take my kindle - not very heavy and many Camino books can be downloaded. Also I am an avid reader so can have all my favourite novels with me.
I started from Sevilla a couple of years ago in mid-Feb. At times a little chilly but no rain and lots of sunshine. Biggest issue I had was a couple of albergues that had little or no heating. I plan to go again in a couple of years and will start in Feb again.
Always a tricky subject. I asked for sponsorship from friends and family when I walked the VDLP a few years ago - I spilt the money raised between an African charity for educating children and Help for Heroes - this was achieved by using the Just Giving website. I think this is quite acceptable...
Hi - not a problem. I completed my first Camino from SJPP to Santiago in 28 days. I did not push things particulary and had not planned to complete in this timescale. No rest days but just steady walking. I was 65 at the time so go for it and enjoy.
I think a normal reaction but once you arrive at SJPP [assume you are starting there] you will get caught up in the excitement of the other pilgrims. But wherever you start the moment you start walking all will be well and the enjoyment starts.
Buen Camino
